The Movie Connection

Back with a new b-b-bonus episode, we watched the Broadway Musical of the century: HAMILTON!We weigh in on the first act, that's right, this is a TWO part episode because we just had too much to say, we talked NON STOP! The musical spans the life and times of Alexander Hamilton, a lesser known founding father who is a perfect stand-in for the embodiment of America in it's beginnings. The musical is best described as "The story of America THEN told by AMERICA now." The stage is filled with one of the best rehearsed and best DRESSED cast's in the history of films. A hip-hop infused soundtrack and a multi-ethnic cast solidify the timely and relevant material. Watch it and raise a glass to freedom!Send us an email with thoughts and ideas for future episodes: [email protected] us on InstagramListen to us on SpotifyTune in later this week to hear our thoughts on ACT TWO!!

In honor of the holiday, we watched a more bearable American History movie that doesn't beat you over the head with patriotism...instead you are treated to a couple hours of a slightly more reserved, but no less lovable, Nicolas Cage, who is the real national treasure here. Jacob was treated to this movie for the first time and we had lots to discuss in this action-adventure Disney movie. Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Gates, a historian with a family legacy of strange conspiracy theories and treasure hunting. Ben uncovers the location of a treasure that the world believed to be lost to all. Along for the ride are a beautiful Diane Kruger and...Riley...the tech guy...a character we have mixed feelings about. Join us for the un-caged fun and adventure!Send an email with any questions, comments or ideas for future episodes and segments. This week we watched "Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure." We were prepared to be disappointed by this Disney sequel from our youth...but were pleasantly surprised by the amazing soundtrack and the superstar voice talents that you are bound to recognize. Scamp is a puppy who longs to run wild and free, but, as Lady and Tramp try to explain to the young pup, the world has it's share of dangers, but when you have family there is very little to fear. Seriously, if you grew up in the Renaissance era of Disney, you should probably check this one out! Hope you enjoy!Send us an e-mail with any questions, comments or ideas for future episodes and segments. We'd love to hear from ya! This week we continue  our Summer of Sequels with "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" Join us as we revisit a lot of familiar faces and voices and a very VERY familiar story...you might even say the EXACT same story as the original. But this time, Ariel has a daughter named Melody who finds herself drawn to the sea and eventually striking a deal with a sub-par sorcerer named Morgana. Though we may have been underwhelmed by most of this sequel, there were some funny topics of discussion, particularly our two Timon and Pumbaa stand-in's: Titanic Tip and Daring Dash. Hope you enjoy listening!Send us an email with comments, questions and ideas for future episodes: [email protected] Catch up on our back catalogue. SpotifyFollow us on Instagram to stay up to date on new and upcoming episodes.

This week, continuing with the Summer of Sequels, we watched "An Extremely Goofy Movie" which follows the original Goof-man himself and his son Max, who is college-bound, but with one major twist...He's going to college with GOOFY!!?? And from there it is a movie filled with Generation X tropes that we know and love...sort of. We discuss some things that worked and other things that were total misses, but one thing is for sure...this soundtrack is one of the funkiest and grooviest of all. Please e-mail us with ideas for future episodes: [email protected]

We finish the Aladdin Trilogy with "Aladdin and The King of Thieves." In which we discuss the prospect of Aladdin and Jasmine FINALLY getting married. We also talk bout how Robin Williams returning as the Genie is music to our ears. This movie introduces some backstory for our favorite neighborhood Street-Rat, Aladdin, when he discovers his father has ties to a band of ruthless thieves. Lot's of great Genie jokes and one-liners galore. And the soundtrack isn't too bad either! Hope you enjoy listening.E-Mail: [email protected]

We are messing with the order of things a little bit this week. We still have one more Aladdin movie to get to which will be posted on Saturday, but, we felt that, given the current circumstances and the current events that are shaping our reality, we thought we'd skip to a more relevant Disney Animated Sequel: "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride" We are back in the Pride Lands. Simba has an eager and adventurous daughter named Kiara who tries to become friends with an Outlander lion named Kovu, who has been seasoned to take the throne back from Simba. This movie very much lives up to its predecessor with only a few weird moments. Featuring a spectacular soundtrack and all our favorite characters, this was a lot of fun to rewatch. It's a story about acceptance, something we can all get on board with. Please follow this link to find ways to support our Black CommunityE-mail: [email protected] safe out there. #blacklivesmatter

This week, continuing the Summer of Sequels, Jacob and KC revisited the first Direct-to-Video Disney sequel: "The Return of Jafar," which takes us back to Agrabah and the adventures of Aladdin and friends. With a title like "Return of Jafar" you would expect this to be a movie focused on the titular villain. Nope. This is a Iago movie...don't worry, it gets discussed. Also, is it a good idea to allow Gilbert Gottfried to sing? And why does Genie sound like Homer Simpson?
