  • (Not) my rules, my hair, my bobble, my man bun – podcast #455

Manchester United 1 vs Leeds United 2
    L Martínez (sent off 56′), Casemiro (69′)
    N Okafor (5′, 29′)
    Premier League
    8:00pm, Monday 13th April 2026
    Old Trafford

Michael Carrick : “We didn’t start the game particularly well. We conceded, which came after Leny Yoro got a forearm smash in the back of his head.

“They didn’t decide to overturn that, which was a big moment in the game. We didn’t quite have the rhythm, we didn’t click. We had some moments but it wasn’t there for large parts of the half.

“I thought the boys stayed positive and fought for everything in the second half, after a shocking decision to send Lisandro off.

“That’s two games in a row we’ve had those decisions go against us, but that one was one of the worst I’ve seen.”

“There’s a difference between touching somebody the way he has and actually really aggressively tugging on it, which we’ve seen at certain points where there’s a real emphasis to it. It’s really concerning.

“To start with, he gets an arm in the face. So he’s kind of off balance. He almost just goes to touch him and grab his shirt and he ends up catching his ear and touches the back of his ear and a bobble comes out and you get a red card for it.

“It’s not aggressive. There’s no tug. There’s no sudden movement. He kind of touches it and glances through it. You’ve just got to be careful where the game is going to go if we are giving red cards for that. It’s a shocking decision. Absolutely shocking.”

  • No penalty given, but then a penalty given – podcast 454

Bournemouth 2 vs Manchester United 2
    R Christie (67′), E Kroupi (81′ pen)
    B Fernandes (61′ pen), J Hill (71′ og), H Maguire (sent off 78′)
    Premier League
    8:00pm, Friday 20th March 2026
    Vitality Stadium, Attendance: 11,250

Michael Carrick : “We should have had another penalty. Obviously, if you get one, you must get the other.

“It’s pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab. Either way, he’s got one wrong, but to give one and not give the other, I can’t get my head around it, I think it’s crazy. It’s a bit baffling, really.

“Because of that, they score and then it’s chaos after that, really. We should have had another penalty and the game would have been totally different.”

  • Record breaking Fernandes inspires – podcast #453

Manchester United 3 vs Aston Villa 1
    Casemiro (53′), M Cunha (71′), B Sesko (81′)
    R Barkley (64′)
    Premier League
    2:00pm, Sunday 15th March 2026
    Old Trafford, Attendance : 73,997

Michael Carrick : “It feels good. It was a good performance in the main. We did a lot of things we were really happy with in the game and to finish it the way we did, we knew it was a big game coming into it and getting back to winning ways, the boys responded so well.

“I was quite happy with it at half-time, it was just a tight game. Sometimes you have to be a bit measured. The game opened up for us in the second half and we had the players to make the difference.”

Speaking about the contribution of captain Fernandes, he added: “He’s had so many big moments, to score or make a pass, and he’s always there. He always puts himself forward, whether it’s training or games.

“The pass to Matheus was fantastic.”

  • They deserved to win tonight – podcast #452

Newcastle United 2 vs Manchester United 1
    J Ramsey (sent off 45+1′), A Gordon (45+6′ pen), W Osula (90′)
    Casemiro (45+9′)
    Premier League
    8:15pm, Wednesday 4th March 2026
St James’ Park, Attendance : 52,184

Michael Carrick : “We’re not happy with the way we played tonight. We had it in our hands largely but credit to Newcastle.

“The way they approached the game, we knew it would be a tough game. We navigated the game in a way that we felt we could kick on but we didn’t really. Bitterly disappointed.

“I don’t think it was the 10 men, I just don’t think we played good enough tonight. We can’t make any excuses for that. We all take responsibility for that and we know.

“Why was the character lacking? It wasn’t. It was just the quality and the performance. Not the character. We wanted to win. It’s easy to throw that out when you don’t win a game of football.

“We weren’t there in terms of quality. Credit to Newcastle. They deserved to win tonight. It hurts me to say that but that’s how it was. We need to get back to working and be better for the next game.

“We’ve lost one game, we haven’t played well enough but in the grand scheme of things but we are in a good position.”

  • Ben is here to score goals – podcast #451

Manchester United 2 vs Crystal Palace 1
    B Fernandes (57′ pen), B Sesko (65′)
    M Lacroix (4′, sent off 56′)
    Premier League
    2:00pm, Sunday 1st March 2026
    Old Trafford, Attendance : 73,934

Michael Carrick : “I am really happy. It was a test for us going in a goal down at half-time. New for us. We didn’t start the game great, credit to Palace they did. We grew into the game as the half went on. Second half we stepped up again.

“It was a big thing to overcome being a goal down at home so early against a team that are tough to break down. It was a big step for us. I was really happy with the way the boys approached that and reacted to it.”

“Ben is here to score goals and he has done enough of that lately. He is going to be an important player – he already is an important player – and he is going to become even more important as he progresses and improves.

“To get the start today it wasn’t a drama, it was a natural decision. Amad coming on and rotating a bit. For Ben to get that goal, that is some really important goals he has scored for us. It was a fantastic header.”

  • If we defend well, we can win any game – podcast #450

Everton 0 vs Manchester United 1
    B Sesko (71′)
    Premier League
    8:00pm, Monday 23rd February 2026
Hill Dickinson Stadium, Attendance : 52,326.

Michael Carrick : “We had the first four games and the first four wins in a row, with some really good performances in there. I expected a period where we would have to find ourselves a little bit and get a result.

“We did it to a point at West Ham and we did it today. That spirit, sacrifice and willingness to work for each other as a team. The way we had to defend our box together at the end of the game. In the end, a clean sheet and massive win for us.

“It didn’t come easy for us tonight. I’ve never had an easy game against Everton. We expected a tough one.

“The lads have trained well and we came into this one feeling good about the game. It was one of those nights for us. We had to dig deep. It was a hit of a struggle at times but those are the best ones to win.”

“He’s in a good place at the moment. We’ve had some really good talks. Patience is one thing for him. Waiting and developing as a player here.

“He understands that. He’s going to be a big player for us for a long period of time, I’m sure of that.

“We’ve got to manage that. We’ve got some top forward players. He’s made a big difference for us when he is on the pitch.”

  • Benjamin Sesko to the rescue - podcast #449

West Ham United 1 vs Manchester United 1
    T Soucek (50')
    B Sesko (90+6)
    Premier League
    8:15pm, Tuesday 10th February 2026
    London Stadium, Attendance: 62,473

Michael Carrick : "Mixed feelings, we know we weren't quite at our best, and credit West Ham for that, closing certain spaces up, but we can be better.

"The boys were a bit frustrated and disappointed, with that, which is a really good sign for me. And then finishing with a late goal when we've had to find one is a good moment, and another positive for us to know that we can do that.

"And we don't want to have to pull on it and use it too often but in the grand scheme, there's a point, something we can take, and we kind of dust ourselves down a little bit, assess it, take these games off, a five-game period, and to just have one draw in there is a big positive."

    C Romero (sent off 29′)
    Premier League
    12:30pm, Saturday 7th February 2026
    Old Trafford, Attendance : 73,985

Michael Carrick : “I’m encouraging confidence, not flicks and tricks, but playing with purpose.

“The connection with everyone has been as good as anything. The feeling, the emotion and connection with players, staff and fans – it feels good. We’ve had to win games in different ways. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to see the stadium this way, to look forward to the excitement.

“I’m pleased with the buy-in. We’re in a good emotional place and that helps you. The four games we’ve had look different, we’ve not cracked it. I’m aware of that.”

    R Jiménez (85′ pen), Kevin (90+1′)
    Premier League
    2:00pm, Sunday 1st February 2026
    Old Trafford

Michael Carrick : "It's a special place this, and it does special things," Carrick said of Old Trafford while speaking to Sky Sports.

"And credit to the boys. We knew today was going to be a really tough game. Getting questions all week about breaking down a low block and beating teams that you should beat, and that was never the case today.

"Fulham are a really good team, and we knew that we were going to have a lot of questions to answer.

"Credit to the boys for the late goal last week that we conceded, then go again and win, and especially today, which was even tougher to take, probably to then find a winner for Benji.

"I'm just so delighted for him, and he totally deserves it.

"It's a huge moment for all of us but for him especially, he deserves it. He's been fantastic since I came here. He will remember that feeling for quite some time."

    Premier League
    4:30pm, Sunday 25th January 2026
    Emirates Stadium, Attendance: 60,296

Michael Carrick : “Massively proud. I think it was different from last week. It was always going to be different today. They put us under a lot of pressure in different ways.

“We probably didn’t have as much genuine, regular threat within the game as we did last week, but I thought there were periods when we looked really dangerous.

“To come here and score three goals in the manner we did, going one down, coming back, then the setback, and still keeping going – it was a huge moment for us.

“The boys had to put an awful lot in today. It probably didn’t come as easy as it did last week. Last week, the time, the flow of the game and the momentum was with us pretty much throughout, whereas today we had to dig deep.

“It was a massive effort and I’m really proud of them.”
