The Nate Lull Podcast

On this very special podcast episode, Nate travels to Norwich High School for the first interview in a series. Hear about the 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 NHS Boys Basketball teams that won back-to-back state titles. These teams went a combined 56-2 over two years and won a federation title in 92-93 with a perfect record of 29-0. Listen in as Coach Mark Abbott and players Peter Burton and Josh Morris talk about their favorite memories. Two additional episodes on this team will be released later this winter.

Nate interviews the new executive director of Section IV athletics, Bill Bryant. Bill took this position in June and shares what he's been working on so far, as well as his vision for the future. You can hear stories from his personal and professional life, and answers to questions sent in by listeners. 

Nate welcomes back Oneonta grad, Jake Crotser to the podcast. The guys talk about Jake’s transition from playing NCAA D2 Lacrosse to professional canoe racing. He tells us about his experience at the AuSable River Canoe Marathon, which is a 120 mile race in Michigan. They also discuss OHS sports history and what coaches and athletes have had an impact on his life.

Nate welcomes recent Delhi grad, Alex Haight to the podcast. He is joined by his Dad, Seth Haight. Alex tells us about his decision to attend prep school at Deerfield Academy. He also talks about finishing his outstanding 3-sport career with the Bulldogs. Seth was an extremely gifted athlete at Delhi and went on to play college football at Colgate and Hartwick.

Nate heads back to Norwich High School to chat with longtime boys basketball coach, Tom Collier. They talk about the rich tradition of the Purple Tornado program and how Tom got involved in coaching. He also tells us about the pain of losing his daughter, Krissie, when she was just 19 years old.

Nate takes a visit to the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club to catch up with longtime staff member, Tony Dilello. They talk about the history of the club and what it means to local athletes. Tony is the offensive line coach and special teams coordinator for the Hartwick College football team. He has been in that role for nine years and discusses why he loves coaching. Tony also tells us about his time playing college football at AIC in Springfield, Massachusetts. 

Nate welcomes back Oneonta grad, Teddy McGraw to the podcast. Teddy plays D1 baseball at Wake Forest and just finished an exciting summer playing in the Cape Cod League. His team (the Brewster Whitecaps) won the league championship and Teddy was a key contributor on the pitchers mound. Hear about his summer on the Cape and how his first year at WF went.

Nate chats with Hancock alumna, Laycee Drake and Delaware Academy grad, Luke Branigan. Laycee tells us about her summer workouts in preparation for playing D1 basketball at UMBC in Baltimore. Luke discusses his senior year at DA where his teams went undefeated in football and basketball. This was a great chance to catch up with both athletes before they head off to college for the fall semester.

Nate welcomes Sidney grad, Jon Carvin to the podcast. Jon is the head pit crew coach for Hendrick Motorsports, where he gets to work with some of the biggest names in NASCAR. His journey is unique as he started his coaching career in college football before transitioning to his current job. Jon talks about his playing days in Sidney and about his time on the football field at the University at Albany.

Nate hits the road to talk with Norwich Football Coach, Mike Chrystie. Mike is one of the most decorated athletes in Chenango County history and went on to play football at Colgate University. He had an illustrious high school career at Oxford where he was an all-state player and a tremendous kicker. He also won a state title in the 100 meter dash during his senior year. Mike finishes by telling us about his battle with cancer early in his adult life.
