Earlier this month, members of the Public and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (PAWUSA) downed tools at the mortuary on Durban's Magwaza Maphalala. According to Pawusa’s provincial secretary, Halalisani Gumede, their members are not happy that a senior official who they accuse of mistreating staff, was re-appointed and he says staff want to be treated with dignity and respect.

Close to 150-thousand security staff in the security industry have threated to embark on a wage strike. The sector which has guards in malls, mining industry, residential clusters, parking lots says the strike will have a major impact on businesses across the country. The unions are demanding that the lowest paid security guard get a minimum wage of seven-thousand-500-rand per month including medical aid.

Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) has filed for an interdict to halt the nationwide strike expected on Friday by the South African Society of Bank Officials (Sasbo). The union is against the retrenchment of workers and the digitalisation of banking.

Old Mutual has once again refused to allow its CEO, Peter Moyo back into his office, despite a court order nullifying his dismissal. The company says Moyo was served with a second termination letter, that has not been declared invalid. His lawyer, Eric Mabuza, says the company board members should decide individually whether they want to associate themselves with further contempt of court.

Metal workers union – NUMSA says if next Monday’s negotiations at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) fails, it will call for a nationwide strike in the motor sector. NUMSA says they met with the employers at the Motor Industry Bargaining Council but their talks have since deadlocked.
