As we continue to observe Women’s Month. Right now we are joined by Dr Lesley Ann Foster who will tell us more about the two-day Accountability Dialogue which is currently taking place in East London in the Eastern Cape. The aim of this dialogue is to discuss current challenges that obstruct the ongoing battle against gender-based violence and femicide in this country.

The issue of de-dollarisation has been at the centre of discussions at the business forum today. President Cyril Ramaphosa is currently hosting President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China on a State Visit to South Africa. China is South Africa’s largest global trading partner while South Africa is also China’s biggest trading partner in Africa. Following official talks between the two leaders, President Ramaphosa said he hopes to see the significant trade deficit narrowed between the two nations. It has been a month since children from different schools in Driekoppies in Mpumalanga stopped going to school. Parents in the area have been protesting over poor infrastructure in one of the schools in the community. The protest started on the in July, with more than 4000 pupils staying away from school. Parents in neighbouring school shut their schools down in solidarity with Magubha Primary school where children’s lives are at risk. They say the school was built in 1970 and has old classrooms with cracked walls that could collapse anytime.

Police officers in Naboomspruit in Limpopo were attacked by community members while arresting a man accused of domestic violence. Police received a distress call from the victim, when they responded to the call, the suspect who had violated a protection order attacked them, refusing arrest. Members of the community then mobilised and joined in the attack against police. We’re now joined by Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Will the ATM be challenging the South African Reserve Bank’s report that has cleared president Cyril Ramaphosa from wrongdoing in the Phala Phala saga? This is the second report to clear Ramaphosa of wrongdoing, after the Public Protector’s. The report found Ramaphosa to have not contravened the Exchange Control Regulation and there was no record of money paid toRamaphosa’s farm manager in 2019 being declared upon entry to South Africa. The report has also not been made public. We’re now joined by ATM Spokesperson, Zama Ntshona.

It’s just two days before the elections in Zimbabwe. Some journalists have been denied accreditation and a delegation from Good Governance Africa was deported last week. Government says it is ready for election day. Opposition Leader, Nelson Chamisa is holding one last rally today ahead of election day. How is everything going? We’re now joined by Nixon Katembo, African affairs commentator who also works for Channel Afrika. He’s been on the ground since last week. 

World News: It’s no secret that South Africa will push for the expansion of the BRICS Trade bloc when the Summit begins tomorrow. This as over 40 countries having expressed interest in joining BRICS. However, the key question that we are looking at today is how credible are some of the countries who wish to join BRICS?
