Preliminary results show a 9% decrease in the rate of murder in the Western Cape. The murder rate in the Western Cape has decreased by 9%. Areas that recorded decreases include Atlantis, Bishop Lavis, Gugulethu, Harare, Khayelitsha, Mfuleni and Samora Machel. However, areas like Delft, Mitchells Pain, Nyanga and Philippi recorded an increase. The Western Cape says some of the decrease can be attributed to is Law Enforcement Advancement Plan. This programme has seen more officers deployed in areas that struggle with crime. Eight of the areas that are LEAP precincts have seen a decrease, while five of them saw an increase.
