A victory for media freedom, and those who have had questions around the Steinhoff scandal. AmaBhungane and Financial Mail have won their court application to gain access to Steinhoff’s report on alleged corruption that saw the company’s share price dropping by over 90 percent in 2017. Steinhoff was arguing some of the information in the report is confidential, however, the court dismissed its arguments saying the report must be made available to applicants in 10 days. The Steinhoff saga began after CEO Markus Jooste’s sudden resignation in 2017 following what the company called ‘accounting irregularities’. It later came out these so called accounting irregularities included a R106 billion that was funnelled through the company’s accounts. We are now joined by AmaBhungane’s Co-Managing Partner, Sam Sole.

eThekwinii Municipality has decided to close all beaches in KwaZulu-Natal until further notice. This as concerns are emerging over the threat of water-borne diseases, following last month's devastating floods. To explain the rationale behind this decision is Nomusa Ntshangase, Senior Manager of the Coastal Region in eThekwini Municipality.

Several stalls were set on fire at the Pan Africa Mall in Alexandra on Wednesday night. About six to eight stalls were affected, howvever, no injuries were reported. The fire broke out after an alleged Operation Dudula altercation and it is believed the stalls belong to South Africans.
