Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting that happened in Cape Town’s Khayelitsha over the weekend, claiming six lives. The two suspects are aged 25 and 28. Police say the 25 year old was arrested in the Eastern Cape while the 28 year old was still in Khayelitsha. Khayelitsha has had a series of shootings over the past few months. The murders have been linked to extortion networks extortion networks in Cape Town’s townships. We are now joined by Police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

KwaZulu-Natal police are asking for assistance in a search for the mother of a 10-month-old baby who was abandoned in Durban. Police say the woman asked someone she knew to look after the baby while she went to meet her boyfriend and has not been back in over a week. The child has been taken to a place of safety as police continue to search for the mother. A judgment from the Supreme Court of Appeals may have implications for ANC leaders who benefitted from Bosasa. The judgment set aside a High Court ruling that halted work that was being done by Bosasa liquidators. The High Court ruling had found liquidators to have acted unlawfully when they allowed an auction of Bosasa's assets to proceed in December 2019. The SCA has now ruled in favour of liquidators saying they can carry on with their process of recovering funds and subpoena further witnesses, including those who benefited from Bosasa. This means some ANC leaders who were implicated may be called before a section 417 inquiry, led by retired judge Meyer Joffe.

Statistics South Africa says Covid-19 has affected the accuracy of South Africa’s unemployment figures, therefore numbers may be incorrect. Chief Director for Labour Statistics Malerato Mosiane says Quarterly Labour Force Survey results that were meant to be released on the 22nd of February had to be delayed due to concerns about the quality of the data. Stats SA made an announcement in March saying the country’s unemployment rate had increased to 35.3 percent. Stats SA has struggled with low public response rate to surveys during the pandemic.
