Municipal salary negotiations between the South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) have collapsed. The Municipal Workers' Union, say they will conclude these negotiations on the streets. Five men were arrested in Mayville Durban last week. Police seized dozens of arms as well as ammunition. Two men, who were accused of a knife attack at a mosque and organizing bomb scares in Durban, are reportedly among the arrested suspects. Investigations are still on-going and it's believed the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also probing the men.

Domestic workers do so much for us - they keep us safe and in comfort but many of them still remain underpaid, overworked, harassed and exploited. According to the fourth annual SweepSouth report, domestic workers who are not on the SweepSouth platform earned between R2, 614 and R2, 916 a month in the past year, which fell below the minimum wage increase as of March 1, 2021. Legendary South African musician Steve Kekana has passed away. He was 63 years old.  Kekana shot to fame in the late 1970's. The singer and song writer had recorded more than 40 albums in his career. The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza has declared the district municipalities of King Cetshwayo, Umkhanyakude and Zululand in KwaZulu-Natal a Disease Management Area following the outbreak of Foot-And-Mouth disease. The Minister says this is a government effort aimed at preventing a further spread of the disease from the affected areas.

Alliance partners of South Africa's ruling ANC, Cosatu and the SACP say in as much as it is sad to see former President Jacob Zuma going to jail, his sentencing reaffirms the centrality of the constitution and the rule of law. Zuma has until Sunday to hand himself over to the nearest police station for defying the apex court's order to appear before the State Capture Commission. The court also ordered that if he fails to hand himself by then, Police Minister Bheki Cele and Police Commissioner Kehla Sithole will have to facilitate the arrest.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation says the ConCourt judgment against former president Jacob Zuma is unconstitutional. Zuma was found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment. The foundation further states that the Constitutional Court acted with bias. Previously Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo dismissed Zuma's application for his recusal as the chairperson of the state capture commission. Zuma applied for his recusal in the High Court. Zondo ignored the request and the Commission approached the Constitutional Court to compel Zuma to give evidence. Many of our listeners yesterday raised concerned as to why the Commission lodged an urgent application for direct access to the Constitutional Court, to request an order for Zuma to comply with the summonses.
