As you heard in the news that Senior Advocate for Concerned Citizens, Anton Katz has today argued in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein that disaster management regulations should be declared irrational. Katz argued that the government did not follow proper procedure when it declared the state of disaster as it did not engage with the public to comment on the matter. Katz says there was plenty of opportunity to give the public an opportunity to comment. A group of concerned citizens is appealing the Western Cape High court decision that ruled in favour of government that the Covid-19 pandemic required urgent government response. The state of disaster was declared on March 15th, 2020.

Former Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste has been fined R122 million by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority after being found guilty of charges relating to insider trading. Jooste shared information with those close to him that other shareholders did not have about the company's imminent share collapse in 2017. Although he did not benefit financially from this, he contravened the Financial Markets Act. He now also has to pay the costs incurred by the investigators.
