Talk of the number of provinces being reduced has been going on for quite some time now in South Africa. Post the ANC’s policy conference in July 2017, the ruling party said it was moving ahead with a plan to reconfigure the provinces in line with a decision taken in 2007 that there should be six provinces in the country. Political analyst, Professor Lesiba Teffo has weighed in on the matter arguing that the reconfiguration of the nine provinces is imperative and urgent, and should be part of the recovery plan.
