Results of the latest survey, published by the Institute of Race Relations suggest that South African men, women and children face frightening levels of violent crime. The survey also shows that men account for the highest number of violent crimes – murder or crimes causing serious injury – involving weapons. Men account for 63.8% of all serious assault cases, followed by women (31.6%) and children (4.6%)

The family of slain soccer star Senzo Meyiwa has expressed frustration at what they term "claims" meant to derail the investigations into his death. The family says they have yet to be informed by police of a breakthrough in the case. According to a report by News24 the police team investigating the murder has now identified a new suspect and has found the firearm that was allegedly used to kill the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper. Meyiwa was was shot and killed at a party on the East Rand in 2014 at the home of musician Kelly Khumalo who was his girlfriend. Reports also suggest that a prisoner who may be linked to Meyiwa's murder is currently in jail for the murder of a taxi boss and the gun used in both murders was found at the Cleveland Police Station. Meyiwa's uncle, Siyabonga says the only people who know what really happened are those that were in the house at the time of the murder.

Earlier on today, Nigerians based in South Africa staged a protest outside the Nigerian High Commission in solidarity with their patriots who have been protesting for two weeks now over excessive force and abuse by the Special Armed Robbery Squad. The police unit is accused of murder, kidnapping, assault and the torture of innocent citizens.

The IFP Youth Brigade Is accusing the mayor of uMfolozi municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, of challenging funds into his personal bank account for study purposes. The Youth Brigade says Mayor Smangaliso Mgenge, of allegedly moved R100 000 into his private account to pay for his studies at the University of Zululand. The Mayor has since denied the allegations.
