Welcome back to another episode.  Today's episode is all about creating "A Safe Space For Black Girls That Never Learned How To Braid".

Niani is the creator and founder of "A Safe Space For Black Girls That Never Learned How To Braid".  She came up with the idea to teach mothers how to braid their daughter's hair.  She felt as if many mothers were having to decide if they were getting their hair done this week or their daughter, and with many children not knowing how to care for their hairstyles, Niani felt that mothers should not have to choose between visits to the salon.

Her original idea was to hold in-person workshops teaching mothers how to braid their daughter's hair, but COVID-19 interrupted those plans.  Niani thought quickly and decided to teach braiding classes virtually for just $5 biweekly.  Her idea went viral and since then she has been a feature on several media platforms such as New York TIme and Good Morning America.

Today's episode is all about the steps I took to grow myself in the beauty industry.  Growth comes in many different ways.  I was a shy kid growing up and of course I would be comfortable around people I knew but because of my speech impediment I hid, kept quiet, and would rather not be seen or heard by others because of the fear of being judged and rejected, and if not careful those thoughts and mindset could have prevented my growth and development.  Instead, I was intentional about my growth with the following 4 actions:

1. Become the person you want to become

There are many debates and legitimate debates about this topic, but I do share my opinion of whether or not you should have a license to perform hair services.

This is the last episode in the series "What Beauty School Did Not Teach You".  In the episode, I talk about the difference between cosmetologists and natural hair stylists and how they approach hairstyling.  I take us through a quick chemistry lesson that will help you understand how product application, hairstyling, and the rearranging of textures break certain bonds within the hair.

I also share quick tips on how to identify safe products from not-so-safe products that are on the market.  In today's world, natural hair products can contain tons of chemicals that are more harmful to the body that it is good.

In today's episode, I go over the fundamental natural hairstyles that will get you on the track to becoming a well-rounded stylist and natural hairstylist.  The styles that I cover are the basics and foundation of natural hair styling.

I also discussed how normalizing natural hairstyles is so important. Textured hair is beautiful.  It's Art and being proud of our crown is what we need to embrace more. 

Society has told us long enough that "natural hairstyles are not professional or inappropriate" yet, you see more and more people starting to embrace health and well-being and with that, awareness of our crown is also included.

Hey, y'all!  Today's guest is a very special one.  It's my mother, "Corinthian Carouthers".

This episode is all about honoring her and her story. For those that don't know, my mother is the founder of Creative Hair School of Cosmetology.  This year, we will celebrate 22 years as a black-owned beauty school.  We offer several programs such as cosmetology, esthetics, manicuring, and natural hair. 

In this episode, my mother shares her journey of becoming a beauty professional and a beauty school ower.  

My mother was born and raised in Chicago, IL, and has always been a fashionista!  She attended beauty school because she realized she was paying tons of money to other stylists and wanted to be able to save money.  Her journey to beauty school opened up new doors that Corinthian did not realize was possible.

It's March and I cannot let the month go by without recognizing a few women that have made history in the beauty industry, the natural hair movement, and even in my personal life.

In this episode, I discuss 3 women that you may have heard of (Madam CJ Walker, Annie Pope Malone Turbone, and Cecily Tyson).  The 4th woman I honor is my very own mother, Corinthian Carouthers.

She is the very reason why I am in the beauty industry. She has created a solid foundation for me and I am very blessed and grateful for her.  

All of the women I mentioned above, including my mother, have made history in the beauty industry, by either creating a brand, a product, being a mentor, opening a business, training other women how to be strong, powerful, and proud of who they are.

We must give women their recognition and roses now.  So many women around us are making history and breaking barriers.  Today, while you still have the chance, be sure to uplift a woman that you see that is taking a stand in her industry with her voice, her presence, and/or her belief.

Latashia Perry is a Wife and mother of 6.  After her oldest daughter was teased in her all-white ballet class about her hair she decided to write Hair Like Mine. A year later she released Skin Like Mine. 4 more books followed all aimed at encouraging self-love and celebrating individuality.

To wrap up the "Representation  Matter" series, Latashia Perry shares real-life stories that lead her to influence her very own children, which, resulting in her writing 6 children's books. Her books are aimed to encourage self-love and celebrating individuality.

In this episode, we discuss how "Hair Like Mine" & "Skin Like Mine" were written based on her daughters that had questions about hair and even skin tone.  We also discuss how what parents do around their children are ways children adopt their own beliefs about themselves.  

Representation matters in the Perry's home.  She and her husband live their lives as an example for their children.
