Tim Gourlay is a first-time entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Fitset, Edmonton's multi-studio fitness pass. Tim is also a former professional athlete and is convinced that life is just better when you're physically active regularly. This belief was part of the original inspiration for starting Fitset and it is Tim's vision to bring Fitset right across Canada. Fitset’s mission is to push the active lifestyle mainstream, which was formed around his core belief that life is better when you are physically active. His innovative online business model is disruptive to the fitness and wellness space as it connects over 85 bricks and mortar fitness businesses in the City through an integrated digital software platform, allowing incoming bookings from Fitset members and helping studios sell off unused capacity. The business model is based around co-opetition, and utilizing the collective strength of the local fitness industry to get more people active while supporting the local Edmonton economy.

 

Not only is Tim innovating in his profession, but he is also passionate about contributing to and helping build the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Edmonton. Since starting Fitset, Tim has employed 4 University of Alberta students on paid internships and hired a U of A recent graduate full time. He is an ambassador of eHUB on campus and often speaks to U of A classes and student clubs about his entrepreneurial journey, with the intention to inspire others to overcome the same challenges he faced when transitioning to a career in entrepreneurship.
