Two Republican senators announced a new phase of the probe into possible corruption by Hunter Biden a mere hour after President Trump was acquitted of the two articles of impeachment.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (Iowa) and Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (Wis.) on Wednesday sent a letter to U.S. Secret Service Director James Murray in which they requested the travel records of Hunter Biden, the son of presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) is calling the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, H.R. 2474, “the worst bill in Congress”. It’s a “compilation of dozens of extreme labor policy proposals from the past several years lumped into one disastrous bill,” according to Lizzy Simmons, NRF’s Vice President.

Not only does the bill have the support of Democrat presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, and Joe Biden, it has 218 cosponsors in the House. This means that the bill, expected to be voted on on Thursday, will easily pass over Republican resistance.

The jobs report from ADP on Wednesday understated job growth in January. Based on its own payrolls, the growth of private employment in the United States wasn’t 291,000. It was actually 336,100 when new jobs created by franchises were included.

The new jobs appeared in every sector of the economy, from small businesses to large and from goods-producing to service-providing. Small businesses added 94,000 new jobs; medium sized companies added 128,000 while large companies (500 employees and up) added 69,000. Those running franchise operations hired 45,100 new people in January.

Near the end of his three-hour long daily program on Monday, radio legend Rush Limbaugh announced that he has been diagnosed with “advanced” lung cancer.

“This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory for me. I’ve known this moment is coming in the program,” Limbaugh began. “I’m sure that all you know by now that I really don’t like talking about myself and I don’t like making things about me. I like this program to be about you and the things that matter to all of us.”

The Iowa Democratic Party held its caucuses yesterday evening and, as of noon CST today, the official party website shows all zeros for vote totals. Most news reports point to an app that apparently malfunctioned, causing the delay in reporting results. But with or without an app that malfunctioned, this is a good time to ask why the process wasn’t just run the old-fashioned way, either by show of hands or by paper ballots counted in front of the voters, and the results proclaimed immediately. Each caucus location could have had a website of its own or place to post results on a common website. If they wanted to use an app in parallel to see which would report results faster, that would have been a great idea. The biggest mistake may not be in the app that malfunctioned, but rather in the decision to make the results reporting dependent on a single technology that opened the door to a method of reporting results that was vulnerable to a single point of failure.

Following the Democrat Party’s takeover of both houses in Virginia last November, the party gained control of both the Legislature and the Governor’s Mansion for the first time in a generation. Gun owners awakened, saw what was coming, and pressured nearly all of the state’s counties and many of its cities to pass “Second Amendment sanctuary” resolutions. The latest Gallup poll, conducted the first two weeks of the New Year, provides President Trump with even more ammunition for his State of the Union speech scheduled for Tuesday night.

The poll found that public satisfaction with the economy, security from terrorism, the strength of the country’s military, and the state of race relations all rose by double digits from three years ago.

In an ominous new development, the Chinese government has locked down the city of Wenzhou, China’s 15th largest, a growing sign that the coronavirus outbreak is defying efforts of the Chinese government to contain it. Wenzhou is a very important industrial, technological, cultural, and academic center on the coast of southern Zhejiang Province, across from Taiwan. Wenzhou has become the first Chinese city outside of the Wuhan area to be locked down.

Wenzhou’s nine million inhabitants are known for their strong business aptitude, and are nicknamed the “Jews of China.” Wenzhou is also known for producing hundreds of world-class mathematicians, and for forging close ties with Taiwan’s tech sector. The city also has one of China’s largest concentrations of Christians, who have sporadically come under severe persecution since the Chinese communists came to power in 1949.
