Picture it….Sicily… I mean…Brick, NJ, 1984…a 10-year-old kid, his little cousin, and their grandfather go to the Loew’s Circle 5 Movie theater to see a new release. Pirate treasure, kids, history…what movie am I remembering? Thats’ right…The Goonies. Pirate treasure-hunting isn’t as easy as finding a map and a doubloon in one’s parent's attic. As a matter of fact, more often than not, there is more myth and story surrounding the whereabouts of pirate treasure than there is factual information. Join me as I discuss Captain a William Kidd and his legendary New Jersey treasure.

In this episode, I delve into the history of Brick Township. Although not considered a traditional “shore town,” Brick’s rich history was, and still is, tied to the Shore. The late 1800’s and early 1900’s saw oceanfront property taken from Brick, to establish Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, and Mantoloking. I have returned from the land of high school musicals, and quick-term college classes! I was building the set for the high school musical, where I teach, and that took up more time than I thought. In addition, I filled in to teach a six week quick term class at the college where I teach, which also kept me away. Please tune in this week as I resume my weekly schedule.
