Creativity and creative thinking have long been undervalued and under-utilised assets for businesspeople and leaders, even though in recent years they have consistently featured near the top of numerous lists of the most valued attributes desired by business leaders. This is often because there is a wide gulf between the expressed need of leaders for creativity/creative thinking in their organisations and their active adoption of an approach that would see creativity weaved into the core of an organisation’s thinking and operational delivery.
On this week’s episode, we speak with Heide Cohu, founder of the influential London marketing & brand experience agency, Studio of Art & Commerce. Heide has delivered some of the most eye-catching platforms for brands in recent years, including winning a BAFTA for best short film for Bacardi - a first for a brand-created film, leading the global communications and media output for Red Bull’s Stratos project - the most watched live stream event in history, as well as producing an Emmy-winning Documentary with the BBC & National Geographic.
We discuss with Heide why now is the time for leaders and senior management teams to be more creative and courageous in their thinking and actions than ever before; the paradox of transparency and data in a brand's relationship with its customers; the perennial challenge that marketing and advertising industries have with opening themselves up to becoming much more inclusive and what this means for creativity; and what the future holds for the relationship between brand and consumer in a world driven by technology but increasingly embraced by a desire to understand more deeply ‘what it means to be human’.

Welcome to this week's The New P&L TO THE POINT - a weekly podcast series where, in around 10 minutes each Friday, we break down the key elements of our weekly The New P&L conversations with industry leaders and entrepreneurs. We offer an opinion on the key points from the conversations and tips on how our listeners may practically apply them in their businesses.
Today's episode of The New P&L TO THE POINT analyses this week's The New P&L conversation with Jesse Todisco - serial entrepreneur, host of The Jesse Tee Show & founder of 46&2 Wealth Partners.
We consider the value the 'Rule of Thirds' can bring to both your business and your life; the power you can gain by embracing and enjoying the whole entrepreneurial journey not just the end result; the need to constantly practice active learning in business to keep evolving and the importance of the Stoic phrase ‘Memento Mori’ - ‘remember you must die’ and its role as a salient reminder to all of us of the fragility of our existence: so, while we cannot control life, we can control the lives we lead and make a conscious decision to maximise each moment of those lives.

Principles, people and a positive mindset sit at the heart of most entrepreneurial journeys. This week we speak to serial entrepreneur, founder of 46&2Wealth Partners and host of The Jesse Tee Show, Jesse Todisco. We discuss with Jesse the importance of mentorship in business; as well as how to decide who you want to align with to ensure you have the right mix of those who support and encourage you and those who challenge you to think with more depth and perspective about what you are doing, why you are doing it and who you are doing it for. We also discuss the impact of the personal tragedies Jesse has experienced and how these have dramatically transformed his perspectives on life and business, leading to his belief in the Stoic phrase, 'Memento Mori - remember you must die' - a phrase that now frames the value he places on his time and his life.

In today's episode of The New P&L TO THE POINT analyses this week's The New P&L conversation with Phil Andrews, CEO of USA Weightlifting.
We consider the subtleties required when attempting to positively change the culture of a business or organisation, including the need to start by listening with intent and with empathy; the importance of ensuring you don’t strip out the best element of an incumbent culture in your ardent desire for change, those components that are positively holding that culture together; the multiple benefits of building a winning mindset; that leaders need to remember ‘they lead humans not robots’, and the power of margin gains when it is adapted and applied to the needs of the individual.

Changing an organisation’s culture takes time, commitment and most of all, nuanced understanding. Leaders that come into businesses and organisations and take a wrecking ball to the culture, however underperforming it might be, so often inadvertently strip away the good things that still exist and are fighting to breathe within that culture. In doing this, these new leaders risk alienating the very people and processes they need to build the foundations of a new, stronger culture for the future.
This week, we speak to Phil Andrews, the dynamic young CEO of USA Weightlifting. Phil’s leadership philosophy is built around listening with empathy and understanding first - before taking action; and it is this philosophy that he applied with vigour when he started his tenure at USA Weightlifting.
We discuss with Phil the role of empathy in leadership and its impact on relationships, productivity, and culture; how to change a business’s strategy to recreate winning mindset; the benefits of the theory of ‘margins gains’ when you put individual needs at the centre of it; and how the magic happens in business when you ‘treat people as humans not robots’.

This episode of The New P&L TO THE POINT analyses this week's The New P&L conversation with Business strategist, Board Executive, Philanthropist, and environmental advocate, Vipe Desai.
We consider how individuals can mentally and emotionally reconcile the size of the environmental challenges we currently face with the limited impact each one of us as an individual can have, and how the lessons learned from this can also be applied to the multiple challenges we face in business; the importance of creating a clear vision for a buisness - one that is built on the firm foundations of collaboration and collective belief; the need to deeply focus on the tone and the nature of the words and messaging you use as a leader; the fundamental role trust plays in business, including how to earn it and how to keep it; and how being a business for good can also be very good for the bottom line when done well and with authenticity.

What connects one of the US's most successful surf and snow festivals, Red Bull's launch in the US; an international non-profit organisation that uses skateboarding and education to empower children and a number of environmental and ocean protection agencies?
The answer is the inexhaustible force that is Mr Vipe Desai.
Right from his early days as a surfshop retailer to his launching of the H2O Winter Classic event and Red Bull in the US; to his role as board director and master business strategist to multiple companies and his social and environmental advocacy with Skateistan, the Business Alliance for Protecting the Pacific Coast, Vote The Ocean, and the Ocean Institute - Vipe has always been at the cutting edge of business strategy, innovation and creativity, and environmental advocacy.
This week, in a wide ranging conversation, we discuss with Vipe how we reconcile the size of the environmental challenges we have with the impact a single company can make on them; the importance of trust in the collaborative process as government, citizens and companies come together to address environmental issues; overuse of the term 'disruptive' in the buisness discourse and what actually defines it, and what the future looks like for retail in a post-Covid world.
