Providence- Editor of the Providence Journal, Alan Rosenberg, joins Gene and WPRO this morning to discuss why ProJo is joining Thursday’s editorial that is directed at the President’s disdain for the mainstream media. Rosenberg says the editorial is not an attack, but rather a retort to the criticism of work done in the journalism field. How do you think citizens perceive the mainstream media? Newspapers and media outlets say the President’s rhetoric has seriously confused the conversation in the country. Additionally, to classify the media as the enemy of the people has created a larger controversy, according to Rosenberg. Rosenberg expanded on the purpose of the editorial saying, “ I wouldn’t say its weaponizing, I would say it’s defending.”

Providence- Wendy Schiller joined Gene this morning to discuss the newest social media attacks launched by President Trump. Professor Schiller is bothered by the President’s attack on his former aide, Omarosa Manigault Newman. Is Trump right to be angry? Who is conflating the Russian investigation issue? Providence- According to CBS News, shares in German farm chemicals, materials and drug company Bayer have plunged in the wake of a U.S. court verdict against Monsanto, which Bayer has acquired. A jury in U.S. federal court in California delivered a $289 million verdict Friday on behalf of a former school groundskeeper, Dewayne Johnson, who said that exposure to Monsanto's Roundup weed killer caused his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer. Monsanto has denied a link between the active ingredients in Roundup saying hundreds of studies have established that glyphosate is safe. Rhode Island attorney Mark Brice says this is one of nearly five thousand pending cases currently being litigated. Brice tells WPRO that extended exposure could lead to a form of cancer and says Johnson used the product frequently with the chemicals touching his body. Brice also adds that those interested in seeking compensation should contact legal counsel, but only if an injury has occurred. Bayer will reportedly appeal the decisions. Brice concludes saying, “what is fascinating about this case is that the environmental protection agency, there is an office of pesticide programs. That is the division responsible for approving these kinds of pesticides for use. That office does none of the studies. They take the information from the manufacturer with most of the funding coming from them (the manufacturer.)”

Providence- Friday night, Narragansett Town Council President Susan Cicilline-Buonanno was pulled over. The traffic stop was seen on the national television show, A&E’s Live PD. Warwick Officer Matt Moretti conducted the traffic stop. Colonel Stephen McCartney recapped the incident Monday morning on WPRO with Gene. Colonel McCartney reviewed the film multiple times and spoke with Officer Moretti. Colonel McCartney goes on to say officer Moretti is “one of our outstanding officers. Very experienced officer. An officer of high integrity and I have no problem coming on your show, or any other show, to have officer Moretti’s back on this. According to the police report, Council President Cicilline-Buonanno was seen crossing over the broken white lines as the vehicle was exiting 95 south to route 4 south. The Narragansett Town Council President identified herself as, “Susan Buonanno”, according to Colonel McCartney. Colonel McCartney also adds Susan was visibly nervous, despite Officer Moretti acting in a diplomatic fashion during the traffic stop. Buonanno also acknowledged to the officer during the field test she is taking prescription medication and had 2 drinks earlier in the evening at a party. Following the test, Councilwoman Cicilline-Buonanno was allowed to leave, but a family member needed to pick her up from the scene as Officer Moretti did not feel safe allowing her to drive home. After a family member arrived to pick up Susan, Officer Moretti was notified that he pulled over a member of the Cicilline family. Susan is the brother of Rhode Island Congressman, David Cicilline. According to Colonel McCartney, Officer Moretti was unaware of who he pulled over. Colonel McCartney finished the interview with Gene saying his department has a good relationship with the network A&E and will not say if they will cancel their role on the show, Live PD.
