  • 065: Breaking with tradition to transcend limitations w/Christina Dick, Founder of TFB Agency

If you're in need of some inspiration, this is your episode! We're chatting with Christina Dick, Founder of the Public Relations Agency: Tiramisu for Breakfast and Adjunct Professor of Advertising at VCU. Christina's positive energy and plethora of #truthbombs will make you feel like you can tackle everything on your to-do list.

This conversation is full of magic like the power of being underestimated and sliding in under the radar, the frustrations of feeling limited within a role and the freedom and creativity that emerges when creating your own rules in your own business, framing all experiences as opportunities to learn and grow, and highlighting the positives of social media. Christina shares her biggest fears jumping into entrepreneurship and the gifts and surprises that have come from being her own boss.

We learn why it's important to "obsess over your customers and not your competitors", that "everyone you meet knows something you don't", and that "you can always lose something you have, but you can never lose something you are". Christina shares her down to earth approach on business and encourages us to consider our intention behind every action and interaction. Tune in now!

  • 063: How to redefine your life to invoke your passion w/Theodora Miller, Abstract Artist

When is it that we take inventory of our lives and decide how we're living? There's no better time than now as we speak with Theodora Miller, who has reclaimed her passion as an Abstract Artist after two decades successfully navigating the financial services world.

This week we dive into conversation about designing the life we want to live and not putting our desires on hold because of X or for Y amount of time. Theodora invites us into her quest to examine her purpose, explore her creativity, implement mindfulness exercises, and own her position as an artist. We discuss the pressures to materialistically "succeed" in our society and the inevitable soul sacrifices we sometimes make to achieve external goals, while we acknowledge various seasons of life and assess how to give time back to ourselves.

Listen as Theodora urges us to embrace our imperfections, make time for the things we love and have the courage to follow our passions, because: why not?! We remember that life is a series of choices and we are empowered to examine what we truly want.

  • 062: How to reconnect to your joy within your chosen profession w/Dr. Janet West, Founder of RVA Baby

In this day and age of public systems failing those served, we are fortunate enough to hear from a woman who is creating more light in the medical world. This week we hear from Dr. Janet West, a Richmond, VA pediatrician and the founder of RVA Baby. RVA Baby is a comprehensive holistic newborn care practice designed to support families after they welcome a new baby into their family.

Having practiced military medicine, worked as a hospitalist, and achieved an MBA with ambitions to run various hospitals, Dr. West speaks to her WHY as to create her own business. We learn it is not only patients frustrated with the current medical system, but most bottom-line run medical offices cheat practitioners out of practicing medicine in the ways that they'd hoped. Rather than leaving the field, Dr. West tells us she thought about what it was about medicine that she loved and pondered how she could make healthcare delivery more family friendly; thus, creating RVA Baby.

Dr. West walks us through her process to set up her business design, while normalizing newborn challenges for mamas and families. In addition to discussing rates, affordability, self-worth, and defining success, we also learn what holistic care can look like, how natural remedies can solve problems, and what the benefits are of having a pediatrician come to you in your first few months of postpartum. We are both inspired and educated by our conversation with Dr. West and are hopeful more medical doctors will create opportunities to make their practices more patient-friendly!

  • 056: How to become the puzzle piece you were meant to be in life and your business w/Candy Beers-Kim

Are you a fit in the box kind of person or an outside of the box kind of person? This week we talk about finding our authentic selves and allowing children to be who they are with Candy Beers-Kim, owner of Attuned Parenting.

Candy has dedicated her career to supporting the parent-child relationship and focuses on how parents and children can become the best team together.  Having attended graduate school to help people find their authentic voice, Candy shares her belief and knowledge that children have a better chance of becoming who they are meant to be in the world when they have self-aware parents and parents who are curious about what their child's behaviors are communicating.  And, we hear how Candy's appreciation for the parent-child dynamic has shifted through the years from teaching pre-school, working in acute psych, starting a business, and becoming a parent herself.

This episode is packed with self-reflection for those with and without kids. We take a look at how we grew up and how we can still aspire to be the most authentic version of ourselves today in life and in business, while Candy shares tips and tricks for those of us looking to nourish our children's development.
