  • 024: "Gradually and then Suddenly" - When Dad Stays Home // Paul Lawmaster + Jen Pike

We are switching things up this week and featuring RESEARCH on breadwinner Moms and primary caregiving Dads collected by Paul Lawmaster and Jen Pike (Yes, we're interviewing a DUDE!!!). Paul and Jen met in Corporate America where Jen was a #bossmom and Paul had years under his belt as a family therapist and marriage counselor.  One day, Jen mentioned to Paul that she was curious about the dynamic between working Moms and Dads who are caring for the children and the home and the research behind the soon-to-be book was born.

Jen and Paul aim to share practical advice based on personal testimonials rather than an academic study to proactively inform couples sharing this dynamic. Paul and Jen acknowledge that when providing both men and women with the space to share their experiences, they can't get a word in. This is a topic that people aren't yet speaking about. Therefore, based on the compiled stories, these researchers share their findings, in addition to looking at the research and previous case studies available, for people to navigate #RelationshipProblems. We talk deep seated gender stereotypes (YES - even for those of us who believe we're "evolved"), change + transition, how successful relationships can mirror our business contracts, what the SCARF model is, how money plays into people's sense of self-worth, and that COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Also, we hear about women chasing men with baseball bats, how Dads are treated on the playground and what it means to FOLD THE DAMN LAUNDRY.

Plus, while Suz does some personal sharing, Care opens up about money as energy and her undeniable belief in the law of attraction. And, Suz runs with Care's enthusiasm to share about all the August energy happenings occurring for us all to open our minds to our desires and manifest our greatest desires. This is a JAM PACKED episode FULL of INFO!

  • 023: "You have to believe what you're doing is valuable" - Christine Greenberg // Owner + HBIC of Urban Set Bride, Wood Grain + Lace, & Co-Founder of Boss Babes RVA

We're getting SAUCEY at the brunch table with Christine Greenberg, Owner + HBIC of Wood Grain + Lace and Urban Set Bride (best RVA bridal shop 3 years running - NBD), and the founder of Boss Babes RVA. Christine holds nothing back as she takes us through her personal and professional journey to being the #bossbabe, #bossmom, #weddingboss she is. Christine lets us in on what it's like to enter the wedding planning business and leave a steady paycheck (terrifying), the dance of running a bridal gown business with your Mom, and how to scale a business learning to become a leader rather than a manager. We also learn about the universe's push propelling Christine into the Wedding biz when she plans a wedding for an instant friend after her boyfriend's incurable brain tumor. What?!

This ep. is packed with the biz pieces like how not to go poor in your business, how to keep brides - bridezillas and "bridechillas" alike - calm using fancy words like "organic", "seamless", and "effortless." And how collaborating with women is the best and how to own your presence to keep old men in check. On the flip side, Christine is real with us about her journey from her hoe days to to her marriage, and learning how to chill out when her son just wants to be held. We're ready for her collection of wedding stories in a coffee table book (like a raccoon trying to eat a bridesmaid's dress) AND to see her rose gold trashcan in Urban Set.

Also -- we are excited to announce we have our first AFFILIATE!!! Use promo code TUESDAY at saucey.com for 10% off ALCOHOL SHIPPED TO YOUR DOOR. • 022: "You want to radiate JOY + LOVE + PASSION for what you're doing" - Nitya // Owner of Yoga with Nitya; Feng Shui + Chinese Astrology Consultant

Meet Lydia "Nitya" Griffith who explains to us how her life and career have been one 'big intuitive ride.' This boss lady began her string of businesses nested under Karma Chameleon, LLC with an online Buddhist new age shop circa 1999 (did you know there were online businesses at the beginning of the internet?) and has steadily found herself on her journey to develop a trademarked kids yoga program. We get real this week as we combine spiritual talk (Lydia is a yogi, Chinese astrologer and Feng Shui consultant) with practical life events like time-management and scheduling practices (and the importance of naps and doing nothing), being the jack of all trades for your biz, filing for bankruptcy at the peak of the recession (yup - that happened), and how to hold yourself accountable as your own boss.  Lydia authentically shares what it's like to be a, "singed chicken coming out of a bonfire," as well how to radiate joy, passion and love for all that you do no matter what. We hear her resilience and we're inspired as she talks about how she's evolving her business and where she is headed in the next 10 years. Other highlights: building your legacy, the Cloud, speed bumps v. potholes, feng shui cures, me-time, and sentences as life metaphors.

Also in this episode, Care + Suz introduce their first SYNCHRONISTIC volunteer: Katy Lovin Jones! We are moving our eps to YouTube slowly, but surely, and Katy is helping us out by transcribing our episodes so they're also on our BLOG ((live by the end of the week))!  You don't want to miss our convo about foxes lovin rice and rice lovin foxes - why not?! AND, why we need to constantly question what we're doing to learn about who we are. As always, thank you for your support, love, feedback and reviews. We appreciate you!

In this episode, the Tuesday girls sit down with Acupuncturist Maegan Hodge, owner of Centered: Richmond Acupuncture & Wellness, and learn ALL ABOUT THE NEEDLES! Just kidding, kind of.

In reality, Maegan delves into the vast amount of science and data behind Chinese Medicine, thousands of years in the making.  And while she may have earned her small biz stripes slingin' crepes in Charlottesville, she now operates her own acupuncture clinic in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom district. Maegan exemplifies balance as she explains how she determined her pricing, how she plans her weeks, and the way she approaches her interactions with patients.  You'll hear her passion through your ear buds as she talks about her intake procedure, the importance of personalizing client interactions, and why listening to the tiny stuff can make a BIG difference in the world of health. • 020:"You Are What You Seek" - Brittany Johnson + Bethany Frazier // You Are Venus + Indigo Fest

We're back with Bethany Frazier of MavenMade (Episode 3) to talk her other biz YOU ARE VENUS, along with the other half of this sacred femininity duo: Brittany Johnson.  Prepare to peek behind the curtain as Bethany + Brittany get real with us about their journeys to their true selves. They talk about exploring: intuitive gifts, energy, chakras, and crystals; via their real life struggles + transitions: cancer, divorce, breakups + coming out.

They've supported one another in their friendship + partnership to find the answers to the tough questions like, "what do shitty things tell you?" and "how do you shift?" to make things more positive. Through their love acceptance of one another's unfolding, they've created a platform:: You Are Venus:: to create a web of support to empower women to shed the bullshit and get grounded and real with one another. Now, 4 retreats in, Bethany + Brittany candidly speak about expanding their vision, creating more energy + capital to support themselves, and how to build a business by being heart-centered rather than ego-driven.

Together, the 4 of us ((Care, Suz, Britt, + Bethany)) mirror one another and show all of the yin-yang, right brain - left brain, practical and spiritual ways of being. We contemplate the history behind the word "woo-woo", how labels constrict our ways of being, and learning from our experiences to do better. Again, we discuss authenticity as the energy of the future and things like aliens and mushrooms.  Basically, YOU ARE WHAT YOU SEEK and everything is on it's way. Not sure?  LISTEN IN!!! And hear what's coming our way in the next few weeks for the Next Tues Podcast + Care's Engaged Legal.  LASTLY -- check out Bethany + Brittany's latest and greatest creation::: INDIGO FEST::: 9/22 - 9/24 a Conscious Music Festival in Oklahoma!!! • 019: "People Purchase Your Product Because of You." - Bethany Silva // Guestroom Creative

Why do you want to do what you do? Who are you in your business? Why do people purchase your product?

These are the challenging questions Bethany Silva sheds light on for us this week as she describes her courageous leap to begin her entrepreneurial journey - which she never intended, btw.  This sleek, edgy design guru reminds us to be human and why and how one's own authenticity is all the rage. Standing in her power, Bethany opens up about comparison, social media (#RealInstagram), and the concern for whether or not she'll have enough work to pay the bills each month. We also learn about Bethany's resourcefulness finding legit paid internships to launch her confidence in a career in design, how a transition to Richmond created opportunity for a career shift, and why people pleasing is overrated.

Learn how personal branding can be the most difficult task for someone who specializes in brand development. How do you name your biz? Hear Bethany's strategy for naming her small business Guestroom Creative.  We love Bethany's community over competition vibe and how she learns from other supportive RVA boss babes like her good friend Kaytee, from @badassbooth, and her phenomenal business coach, Shannon from @lemmonumbrella.  And, hear us gush as Bethany describes how supportive and encouraging her husband is of her passion, capabilities, and overall amazingness.

Also in this episode - What's happening with the Bachelor in Paradise? Care + Bethany bond over recent WTF moments. How our talents and passions can become our careers. And, Care + Suz get carried away with their enthusiasm for authenticity and intuition (like usual).

Also - we want your feedback. Email us your thoughts about the podcast: what you like, what you want more of, what you want less of, or what you want us to know. What's your favorite ep and why!?! We want to continue to grow this thing - [email protected]

  • 018: "It Set my Heart on Fire." Julia Warren // celebrate! RVA

What were YOU doing high school?  Crying in your floor to Taylor Swift lyrics? Obsessing over your homecoming date? Freaking out about the PSATs? How about hiring lawyers and starting a legitimate nonprofit organization, which has since hosted thousands of birthday parties for children?

Yeah, Care and Suz didn’t quite make that last one happen.  But Julia Warren, the founder (and now full-time employee!) of Celebrate! RVA sure did.

Julia started celebrate! RVA, a nonprofit dedicated to one single thing: celebrating children and giving joy where it has been lost.

Julia literally leaves the girls speechless with her selfless dedication, clarity, and wisdom far beyond her twenty one years of age.  And while birthday parties are all fun and games, Julia quickly tackles the hard stuff.  She speaks about the roots of distrust between Richmond’s housing projects and the Richmond Police Department, lends a lens to children’s perceptions of how the RPD views them, and how birthday parties are actively helping to change that. Julia’s story isn’t one of a 16 year old with a white savior complex-- it’s the story of a child helping other children feel special, and somewhere along the line growing into an adult cultivating love, joy, and a magical space for children to just be children.

Also: Ugly crying, basic searching on Google, and TURNING 30! Happy Birthday, Suz!!

  • 017: "This is to be a POSITIVE FORCE in the world" - Emily Herr + Sarah Apple // Mural Artists - Girls Girls Girls Tour

Care + Suz are so excited to share the women behind the Girls Girls Girls extravaganza taking over #RVA and beyond. This week we chat with the Girls ^3 masterminds, Emily Herr + Sarah Apple, who took a blank wall inspired by Strip Signs and are turning one into many from Richmond to Burlington, VT via an epic adventure in a 3500 lb. commercial vehicle. Relying on the kindness of strangers, these mural painters and illustrators are sharing the celebration of girls + women to be a "positive force in the world." Listen to the layers of this project that are uncovered as Emily and Sarah begin to take steps to explore their intention to normalize and represent all images of women up and down the East Coast.

Gems in this episode include a comparison of Emily's mobile art studio, or "adventure machine," to the van in the television show Breaking Bad and Caroline's "baby killing" metaphor regarding the creative process. On a more biz related note - this episode is all about the process - that uncomfortable space of trial and error, exploration and experimentation. We touch over sponsorships, the differentiation between a sign and a mural, exemplifying the purposeful pivot, and the magical idea generators - the moral support of beer + coffee.

These girls are awesome and creating community and connection around the inspiring murals showcasing all kinds of girls like you and us! They vulnerably share their craft and dreams and allow you to be a part of their journey. Plus, find out -- is this a feminist thing? Or isn't it? TBD! Thanks for listening in!

We've got half of the strategic branding and interior design firm CAMPFIRE & CO on deck!

  • 015: "Look at the big picture" - Stinson Mundy // Attorney - Linden Legal Strategies

This week Care and Suz fan-girl over Stinson Mundy, Attorney and founder of Linden Legal Strategies. We hear about Stinson’s kick ass career as a lady litigator, her love of law school, (she seriously loves the law because like, no one loves law school...) some courtroom battle stories, and why she considers herself to be an “accidental lawyer.” Stinson's experience in-house at Target can't get us any discounts, unfortunately, but it did propel her to kick butt as a firm associate and into a role as General Counsel at a bigass Trucking Company. Oh, and don't forget about her clerkship at the Supreme Court of Virginia-- because that's not intimidating, or anything.

This week, Caroline and Cody are both with us as we introduce Episode 15 – they’re inseparable these days. We mention more about our podcast journey and Care’s new Engaged Legal side-biz baby. And, we breakdown the confusing nature of the internet... or at least try. Stick with us as we discuss growing and scaling business models early on, navigating the million-and-one platforms, and the advertising that goes into one’s success.

Oh, and WE'RE INTERNATIONAL BABY!! Shoutout to our listeners in the WEST INDIESSSSSSSS!
