When I was 18 years old, through understanding what I was eating and what I didn't want to eat and reading labels at the supermarket, quickly led to me going ‘Oh my god, and all my body care is just total BS.’ And I did a science fair project with essential oils. Then I get to university and I discovered this whole thing kind of about food and body care. So from that moment forward, I never ate processed food again. I always eat organic and I was always making my own skincare. Then I started making it for friends and family and also at the same time I was sourcing the world for the purest ingredients. From reading books from the 1800s and modern books, and reading about materials like ancient Egyptian recipes, I was like, ‘I need these things.’ Just really recently in the last hundred years or since the 19th century, synthetics didn't even exist, and before that what we applied to our body was pressed from petals and sluice from SAP and had such a life quality to it. And so that's what I was really interested in. When I understood the BS in beauty care, that's when my relationship to beauty and health got really renegade, and I've started to care for myself in a whole other way. So I'd make all these formulas and then friends and family loved it all. I knew when I was going to graduate that I was going to do something else, I was going to start a store because I felt like there was no place that had that purity. I was making blends and concoctions and people were buying it. It was really fun and it grew and grew, so I had that going for me while I was in university. I made my own little pamphlets and I called it Artemis Essentials.   I had my lip balms I would put in little recycled film canisters of all kinds. People really wanted my stuff . . . so yeah, there was that moment I knew. Then I took an aromatherapy course just to kind of ground it all in. I can't remember the exact moment a store thought came in, but I was like, I'm going to do a store. Entrepreneur challenges  What challenges have you faced as an entrepreneur?  In my last year [of university] I was getting a lot of the stuff ready for when I was free from school to then open the store. Read on for 20 Instagram secrets to uplevel your Instagram profile in minutes.   How to do an Instagram live the right way  Instagram live has a limited life span  When it comes to Instagram Live, it’s important to remember it's a live broadcast. Just like you would do Facebook Live or Periscope, or whatever it is. Thankfully, Instagram makes the process super simple: press one button and you’re live. While the video is there in your Instagram profile, you can either share it or not. If you share it after the broadcast, it's still only “lives” for 24 hours, and then it's gone. It's not like a Facebook live that stays on your page forever. Instagram Live is very short form content in terms of its longevity. You can do up to one hour of live recording and then it will literally chop you off. It will end your broadcast after about 59 minutes and 59 seconds. A little timer starts flashing and you have 30 seconds left. It is one of those things where you have a limited capacity with it. So you do want to make sure you save it immediately after broadcast to your camera roll. How to save your Instagram live  You can repurpose Instagram lives to YouTube or Facebook or your blog post or whatever you want. You’ll have the MP4 version available after recording but you have to immediately, as soon as you end the broadcast, save it. To do this, there's a SAVE button in little white letters in the top right corner. You literally have to click that save button right then because if you don't, you cannot save it after the fact. Also, if it’s a long video, make sure you have enough space on your phone to download it. When you see a pop-up that says ‘Video Saved’ you know it’s been added to your camera roll. From there you can save it to your Google Drive or Dropbox. Additionally, if you had a guest on your live you cannot save the video. This may be a privacy or security concern if they haven't given permission to come on. They don't want you saving the video and repurposing it because of the type of outlet that it is with a 24 hour product. In that case, you’ll have to use a screencast recorder. After you go live, you share it for the 24 hours.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNIQUES OF EFFECTIVE PUBLIC SPEAKING? Knowing the Difference Between a TEDx Talk and a Keynote Speech  The Art of The Big Talk first breaks down the difference between a TEDx talk and a keynote speech. This is an important distinction you’ll need to understand in order to get the delivery just right. A TEDx talk is  18 minutes or less Contains your ideas (not problems or issues) Aims to give the listener a “gift” or a solution (“We can end global warming by doing this one simple thing…”) A keynote speech  45 - 60 minutes long Presents hard hitting problems or issues Contains a clear call to action or an “ask” (“Buy my book”) Tricia further explains these very different approaches by stating “If you talk about an idea and frame it as an idea, not an issue, people will respond to you more openly. An idea is a thought a concept or a notion that we have. And once we form a thought this can become an idea with massaging, tending to and allowing for growth, an issue is usually an emotional or a personal problem. And it makes you feel prickly.” Issues may make us feel like ‘What can we do about it? It's so big.’ However, if you reframe it as an idea, a short to-the-point statement of hope, it sounds doable, actionable, and people are more likely to respond. Having a “Through-Line” in Your Talk to Stay in Alignment with Your Message  The through line is the heartbeat of a talk. If you understand what your through line is, you can constantly come back to it and never get lost. A through line is short, only 15 words or less. It's the concise, articulate and singular progression of your idea, which includes all of the critical elements unique to the idea. It's simple, it's clear, and it's very succinct. Here are three examples of really strong through lines:  More choices make us less happy Vulnerability is something to be treasured, not hidden Fake it until you make it As writers and speakers with big ideas, we have so many things we want to say and sometimes we go off track. If not, you’re going to want in on this! The 3-day work week is a process of effective time management skills and productivity tips that essentially reduce your weekly work load without sacrificing the results that move your business forward. Cailen Ascher developed this process out of necessity after her first daughter was born four years ago. It was a personal choice and an experiment. Cailen felt, ‘I've got this new baby, I don't want to go back to working full time hours.’ What felt right for her intuitively would be to work three days and then have four days, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday off to spend with her daughter and family - a four day weekend, a three day work week. Thus the 3-day workweek was born. Cailen shares how to create this 3-day schedule for your own business and life to increase your productivity without working longer and harder. How to be more productive without working all the time At first, this 3-day work week was a bit of a gamble for Cailen. She wasn’t sure what this was going to do to her business or how to make it work long term. Despite her reservations, she stepped into it, set up her schedule, and started implementing the time management techniques and productivity strategies that she shares below. Her business was not only maintained, but actually grew and expanded to new levels she had not previously reached when working full time. How can I improve my time management and productivity skills? Do a Time Inventory First and foremost, this process is about you finding the working hours that makes sense for you -- your life, your family, your business. Cailen reminds us, “It's not about adopting exactly what I've done, cutting your your work week back just to three days, but moving in the direction of what truly serves you personally and professionally.” Under that umbrella, think of the most powerful things you can do to move in the direction of making highest and best use of your time and protecting your time. The first step in doing this is to do a time inventory. To do this, get a pen and notepad ready and set a timer for about every 60 minutes or so. Pause and take a second to jot down the task or the multiple tasks that you were doing during that time. Repeat this process for a couple days. Doing so can give you rich insight into how much time you’re wasting on things that aren’t really important, that you don’t enjoy or that you aren’t particularly good at. It can also reveal how much you’re ping ponging back and forth between tasks that could be chunked together more effectively. Once you sit with that, and do this for a few of your work days, you start to see where changes can be made. Dig even deeper and rank your tasks. Ask, does this make me money and do I enjoy it? Am I good at this? Adding in some of those questions can be extremely helpful as you re-prioritize your time and set more boundaries. Learn to Outsource Your Tasks The next step is to outsource your tasks if possible. If you're in a position where you’re able to get support from a virtual assistant, this is a great time to circle all those items that you would love to outsource.
