Episode 10: We all know mental illness doesn’t discriminate. Regardless of age, gender, or race, anyone can suffer from anxiety, depression, and other conditions. Still, there are unique perspectives and challenges that are worth exploring. In today’s episode of The Noisy Mind, we honor Black History Month by discussing the mental health experience of African Americans. Racial trauma, stigma, and a lack of provider representation are just some of the reasons why Black Americans are 20% more likely to experience struggles with their mental health. We talk with Brandy Porche, a licensed professional counselor about the mental health needs of Black Americans and, more importantly, how we can provide support.
Many of us think of January as a chance to make a fresh start. The ball has dropped, resolutions were made, and our gym membership started. It’s never too late to start a healthy habit, but many of us set a bunch of unrealistic goals around New Year's. We pledge to wake up at 5am and work out every day. We vow to stop eating out and prepare every meal at home.
In this podcast, we share tips on setting realistic goals for the new year. We suggest healthy habits everyone can incorporate into their daily lives. And we talk about strategies for letting go of the not-so-healthy habits that hold us back. Join us as we reflect on the lessons of 2021 and set an intention that supports us through 2022.
The holidays can be stressful – meeting the in-laws, seeing your parents after avoiding their calls for the past three months, and the gifts – the dreaded gift giving when you have negative five dollars in your bank account. This episode we want you to sit back with a cup of cocoa, wrapped in your favorite blanket, and relax. We’re going to share how to let the stress of the holidays roll off your shoulders this season. Dr. Summer Thompson, DNP, PMHNP-BC will be sharing some at home stress relievers and gifts that don’t break the bank. We hope you enjoy!
Get ready! The holidays are coming, along with all those awkward interactions with nosy friends and family. In today's Let's Talk Mindcare, she'll provide useful tips on how to establish boundaries, protect your time and energy, and what to do when people keep pushing your buttons.
