Dan and Austin have been hunting together for the last couple years. When the deer activity slowed down on their individual chunks of private ground they decided to call an audible and shift their focus to a piece of public land that Dan and his family have been trail riding and camping on. After seeing several rub and scrape lines Dan decided to take his son Canyon out during the youth season and was able to call in 3 bucks in the first 30 minutes. This led to him putting more thought into hunting the same area during the regular rifle season. On both the drive out and the drive home Dan and Austin discuss their expectations for the hunt, their hesitancy with hunting public land during firearm season and the recap of how their first sit went. It’s an exciting episode which dives into tall tales about mountain lions as well as the management practices of multiple fish and game agencies.

Weston, Caleb and Jared made the 15 hour drive from central Florida to join Dan on his hunting properties to experience what midwestern whitetail hunting is all about. After several close encounters and first time experiences for each of the guys, the four of them discuss the differences in hunting Missouri vs. Florida. Between stories of glassing sessions, all day sits and even naps in the field this episode is one for the books. The three out of staters came in pursuit of a 120+ inch buck and left with memories they will never forget. After some serious first day action they knew this would be a trip that would happen year after year and the crew sits down to make plans for years to come. The guys also discuss the value of learning deer patterns and movement on a new chunk of property and in terrain they have never hunted before.

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman, Dan chats with hunting buddy Austin Reinold about the ups and downs of their hunting season so far.
Dan and Austin started their 2024 hunting season by flying to Alaska and chasing moose and caribou. Although they came home empty handed, the disappointment from the hunt wasn’t quite over. Weeks later Dan discovered more upsetting news on his phone which the two discuss in this podcast episode. Both Dan and Austin have had encounters with their target bucks for this season but have not been able to capitalize on the opportunities. They discuss adjustments to their hunting strategies, improvements to their land and upcoming changes in the weather which they both hope will prove valuable as they try to get a mature buck on the ground in Missouri. With only a few weeks before rifle season they try to figure out what needs to change in order to have success with a bow early in the year.

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman, Dan and his hunting buddies do a full breakdown of the last 11 days pursuing moose, caribou, bear and wolves in Alaska’s interior.
Dan along with several buddies attempted to tackle their first ever interior hunt in Alaska for almost 2 weeks. This episode is full of day to day encounters with animals they had never seen before. Between fresh wolf tracks following them out of an abandoned mining trail to getting checked by Alaskan Fish and Game agents and even a perceived grizzly charge this episode is all about their crazy trip and the opportunities they never thought would happen. Dan, Austin and Jason have been hunting together for several years but when they decided to take on one of the most sought after hunts in North America they had no idea what to expect or what they’d be getting into. Between being surrounded by the 40 Mile Caribou herd and hanging out on the side of the road watching the Northern Lights dancing overhead this will be a trip they never forget. With a few tags still in their pockets the question isn’t if they will be back but how soon they will make it happen again.
