The Now Life

This week Shawn and Josh have Manny Hernandez in the studio with them. The guys have a fun time discussing things that make them laugh but also things that really matter.  As the High School Pastor at Desert Springs, Manny has the responsibility of helping students follow Jesus and grow up spiritually. The guys discuss the Student Missionary Internship (SMI) program that has been a huge part of growing up the next generation. Listen in and hear about how the principles and disciplines practiced through this program are helping to develop the hearts and minds of both adults and students to chase after Jesus and live the Now Life!

Today on The Now Life podcast Shawn and Josh are continuing the discussion on creating a disciple making culture. This episode focuses on the language we use to express our culture. Language matters and is important because we want people to understand what we mean. We are communicating mission and purpose and clearly defining words. We are telling the stories of what God is doing and celebrating how the culture is changing people and producing disciples. Remember, Jesus is our model. His message and His methods are perfect and need to be what guides our behaviors as we follow Jesus and make disciples. Go live The Now Life!

Shawn and Josh are continuing the discussion on creating a disciple making culture. This episode focuses on how the right behaviors help to form culture. No matter what we believe or say we believe, our culture is what we make a priority and do. We may value the right things and tell all the right stories, but if we don’t also do the right things we won’t change. Remember, Jesus is our model. His message and His methods are perfect and need to be what guides our behaviors as we follow Jesus and make disciples.  Live like Jesus lived!

SURPRISE! Welcome to our special bonus episodes of The Now Life. Back in March our church (Desert Springs Community Church) sent a team of 10 adults led by Pastor Jamie Engram to serve with our missionaries Wade + Shannon Cooperrider in Nicaragua. They led a VBS, shared testimonies and sermons, handed out flyers, swam in a volcano lake, and even sang a special music song in Spanish. Most importantly, they got to see God work in some amazing ways as they and the team at La Paz Centro worked together to share the gospel with their community. All told, they had 120 kids on the last day of VBS that heard the gospel and have heard of six that made professions of faith. Shawn wanted to take some time to talk with a few of their team members to hear about their experience and how they saw God work.

Something exciting to mention is that Shawn will be leading another team to Nicaragua in September 2024! There will be an info meeting at DSCC on May 5th at 12:30pm in Room 211. You can email [email protected] with any questions.

Email us at [email protected] with any questions or suggestions. Tell us how God is working in your life. If you would like us to come alongside you to help you be faithful to the Lord, then connect with us.

Meet Josh Fricovsky! In this episode Shawn and Josh discuss how they met and began walking together to become more like Jesus. Josh encourages everyone to humble themselves and embrace the fact that we need other disciples in our life who are following Jesus' methods to help us become more like Jesus. It is good to be passionate about learning, but we must be intentional to do the things we are learning so that we can actually grow. Josh speaks about this journey and the steps he was encouraged to take for his own personal transformation and ultimately the glory of God and the sake of others.

This week on The Now Life we are continuing the discussion on creating a disciple making culture. Last episode we said culture could be defined by saying “It’s How We Do Things Around Here.” Our culture reflects our mission. Our Values, Beliefs, Behaviors, Language etc. should demonstrate our desire to accomplish that mission. Creating a culture that’s connected to our mission is vital! We must start with defining what we are trying to accomplish and work backwards. A Disciple making culture is meant to produce disciples of Jesus. Listen in as we discuss the picture of a disciple and why having a clear picture matters.

Welcome back to The Now Life! This season is going to be awesome! We are going to be focusing on how culture is an environment that produces something. In this episode Shawn and Sam begin the conversation speaking about creating a disciple making culture. They talk about good food, throwing rolls and more importantly, how your culture isn’t what you say is important, but what you actually do. Culture could be defined by saying “it’s how we do things around here.” Culture really matters! As the church, we really need to figure this out. Listen in and hear the first episode of this series.

Action Step:

Ask yourself, does my life reflect the culture Jesus requires of His church?
