Gary Lachman, who in 2006 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of the band Blondie, has written several books exploring the history of the occult in politics and literature. In his studies, Swedenborg’s name kept popping up. He was hooked when he read Wilson Van Dusen’s The Natural Depth of Man and The Presence of Other Worlds and recognized how the ideas reflected his own experience. Ultimately he delved into a study of Swedenborg for himself and wrote an introduction to Swedenborg and his thought. Lachman thinks we’re now in a time when the occult doesn’t need to be taboo, but can be honestly explored. His forthcoming book is called Dark Star Rising: Magick and Power in the Age of Trump.

Curtis Childs is the digital media producer at the Swedenborg Foundation. While obtaining his degree in communication studies from Oakland University, Curtis experienced an internal battle with depression that led him to question God and his lifelong interest in Swedenborgian theology. After a period of intense suffering, he recovered from his depression with the help of modern medicine, therapy, and a return to the spiritually uplifting messages he found in Swedenborg’s writings.
