Bob Proctor—an aerospace professional, goat farmer, and devoted dad—had long felt something was coming; in 2023 a sudden chest burn signaled a catastrophic aortic tear. Coworkers avoided CPR (which could have worsened internal bleeding), EMTs rushed him to a CT, and surgeons operated as he moved through a calm, out-of-body passage where a tunnel seemed to recede behind him and meaning snapped into focus like a perfect equation. He remembers a “reverse” return—memories of this life redownloading—along with the sense that he wasn’t meant to recall everything from the other side, only that he has what he needs to finish his work here. The experience reshaped his outlook: greater trust in medical teams, humility about second chances, and a father’s resolve to live intentionally and finish strong.
