New Thinking Allowed Audio Podcast

Jon Knowles has been active in the remote viewing community since 2000. He has been involved as a trainer, viewer, and project organizer. He is coauthor, with Debra Lynne Katz, of Associative Remote Viewing. He is also author of Remote Viewing from the Ground Up.

In this reboot from 2021, Jon focuses on various methodological nuances involved in precognitive forecasting of lottery numbers, horse races, athletic events, and various financial instruments. He describes the history of such efforts over the past fifty years. He favors a system involving a unitary target rather than a binary choice, suggesting that it provides statistically better results. Knowles also discusses the potential social implications of applied precognition, and speculates as well on the possibility of artificial consciousness.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “Parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). He is also the Grand Prize winner of the 2021 Bigelow Institute essay competition regarding the best evidence for survival of human consciousness after permanent bodily death. He is Co-Director of Parapsychology Education at the California Institute for Human Science.

Amit Goswami, PhD, is a retired professor of physics from the University of Oregon. He is author of The Self-Aware Universe, Physics of the Soul, The Quantum Doctor, God is Not Dead, Quantum Creativity, and The Everything Answer Book. This conversation is based on his book, The Quantum Brain, coauthored with Valentina Onisor. His website is https://www.amitgoswami.org/

In this reboot from 2021, Amit builds upon his insight that consciousness is the ground of all being and can also be thought of as the quantum wave function, i.e., the realm of all possibilities. The brain itself does not produce consciousness. Rather it exists within consciousness. Quantum correlations are, ultimately responsible for the coherence of our mental experience. Goswami also addresses the yoga chakra system and the process of reincarnation.

Arthur Versluis is Professor of Religious Studies at Michigan State University. Among his many books are American Gnosis: Political Religion and Transcendence, The New Inquisitions: Heretic-Hunting and the Intellectual Origins of Modern Totalitarianism, Wisdom’s Children: A Christian Esoteric Tradition, American Transcendentalism and Asian Religions, Alchemical Lightwork: A Guide to Creating Cultures of Light and Spiritual Awakening, and Platonic Mysticism. Here we will be discussing his book, American Gurus, Magic and Mysticism: An Introduction to Western Esoteric Traditions. His website is https://arthurversluis.com/

Arthur explores the uniquely American phenomenon of “immediatism”—the claim of immediate enlightenment or revelation with little or no preparatory practice—tracing its roots from Emersonian Transcendentalism through the Beats, the psychedelic counterculture, and contemporary neo-Advaita teachers. Drawing on his book American Gurus, he examines figures ranging from Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau to Adi Da, Frithjof Schuon, Osho, Bernadette Roberts, and Franklin Merrell-Wolff, highlighting both the antinomian tendencies and the genuine mystical insights that recur across this lineage. Versluis situates these currents within broader cultural cross-pollination between Western and Asian traditions while cautioning against reducing every guru to mere power dynamics.

00:00:00 Introduction

00:06:00 Immediatism and American character

00:12:00 Emersonian Transcendentalism and self-reliance

00:18:00 Continuity through William James and psychedelics

00:24:00 Neo-Advaita and late-twentieth-century gurus

00:30:00 Antinomianism and documented controversies

00:36:00 Bernadette Roberts and the path of no-self

00:42:00 Power dynamics and feet of clay

00:48:00 Esalen human potential and cultural cross-pollination

00:56:00 Conclusion

Sally M. Ornstein was married to the late psychologist, Robert E. Ornstein, for more than 35 years. She is coauthor, with him, of God 4.0: On the Nature of Higher Consciousness and the Experience Called "God".

In this reboot from 2021, Sally describes the capacities of the brain's right hemisphere for experiences of transcendence and wholeness. She maintains that higher states of awareness are achieved, naturally, by deactivating certain areas of the brain that keep us focused on egoic concerns – the right parietal lobe and the default mode network. Ornstein describes stages in humanity's religious evolution leading up to the integration of science and spirituality.

Christopher Noël holds a Master’s degree in philosophy from Yale University and a Master’s in Fine Arts from Vermont College of Fine Arts where he taught writing for 20 years. He also researches the phenomenon of Sasquatch. He is author of several books, including There is No Veil: At Play in the Vast Here and Now, UAPs and the Afterlife: How New Disclosures Support Centuries of Psychic and Spiritual Research, and The Anatomy of Thin Air: Practical Solutions to Paranormal Mysteries. His website is thenearnessofyou.net.

Christopher proposes a theory of consciousness that may account for the nature of existence and parapsychological phenomena, such as psychokinesis, remote viewing, and mediumship. He suggests it as a nested field that is co-located and moves within quantum fields. Bridging science and spirituality, he includes physical matter within his theory.

Here is how the Nested Field Theory applies to object levitation, aka anti-gravity without technology:

Gabriel Kennedy (aka Prop Anon) is the author of Chapel Perilous: The Life & Thought Crimes of Robert Anton Wilson. He is also a visual artist and musician.

Gabriel discusses Robert Anton Wilson’s Cosmic Trigger Volume One, focusing on Wilson’s life in 1970s Berkeley amid psychedelics, occult experiments, and countercultural currents. He explores Wilson’s close collaboration with Timothy Leary on the eight-circuit model of intelligence, Crowleyan magic, synchronicities involving Sirius and the number 23, and the development of model agnosticism. Kennedy also addresses the personal tragedies that marked this period, including the murder of Wilson’s daughter Luna, and why the book remains a classic of underground American literature.
