We're going back to 1991 when a red card for goalkeeper Tony Coton meant striker Niall Quinn was forced to take his place.

Up against Derby County who were on the brink of relegation, fan favourite Quinn had already scored an exquisite left-footed volley to give us the lead.

However, Derby’s Dean Saunders was soon through on goal before Coton was deemed to have brought him down.

With our No.1 given his marching orders and no substitute goalkeeper, Quinn took Coton’s shirt and gloves.

The Ireland international’s first duty between the sticks was to face up to the resulting penalty. Incredibly, he saved the shot at full stretch to turn it behind for a corner.

It inspired us to a victory on the day and even went some way to earning Quinn the Player of the Year award for that season!

We sat with Niall to look back at this incredible moment, his time at The Club and hear his goalkeeping experience before going between the sticks for City.

Lily Murphy is this week’s guest on the Official Man City Podcast...

Our talented teenage forward talks about her journey to the club she has supported all her life.

Via Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, Lily worked her way towards the Blues before finally joining in 2022.

The 19-year-old also represented England at youth level in athletics, recording a 11.81 seconds 100-metre sprint along the way!

Josko Gvardiol is this week’s guest the Official Man City Podcast.

Former stalwart Ian Brightwell is the latest guest on the Official Man City podcast...

Brightwell came through the ranks at City - being part of our first ever FA Youth Cup winning side in 1986.

A true team player, he went on to make 380 appearances for City between 1986 and 1998 during a rollercoaster period for the Club.

Brightwell was also joined in the City squad for several years by his brother, David!

In this episode, Ian speaks to hosts George Kelsey and Paul Dickov - having played alongside Dickov in his final two campaigns at Maine Road.

The conversation starts with his childhood and family life as son of two Olympians; Robbie Brightwell, captain of the British Olympic team in 1964, and Ann Packer, gold medal winner in the 800m in Tokyo that year.

They move on to his stories of a fascinating period in our history, when Brightwell was a regular in a City side that experienced highs and lows in a rollercoaster 12 years between 1986 and 1998.

James McAtee is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast!

Another of our special homegrown talents, McAtee is enjoying his first season as a regular member of Pep Guardiola's world-class squad.

The 22-year-old has already spent more than a decade at the Club, joining our youth ranks from Under-11s onwards.

Touted early on as a player that could make an impression at the top of the game, McAtee has worked hard to earn the trust of Pep Guardiola.

Nico O'Reilly is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast

The 19-year-old Manchester-born midfielder has been at City since he was eight, progressing all the way through the ranks to this season take his place in Pep Guardiola's senior squad.

Having captained the Under-18s to Premier League success in 2022/23 and captured the public's attention with his flair for outstanding goals, O'Reilly also stepped up to train with our first team stars consistently during that Treble-winning campaign.

He then featured on the bench in the Premier League towards the back end of 2023/24 before getting his first senior minutes on tour in the US.
