This week we have our final post ASCO 2020 Review episode, hosted by Professor Eva Segelov from Monash University. Eva is joined by Dr Craig Underhill from Albury-Wodonga and Professor Hans Prenen from Belgium.

This week Eva presents an important update on cachexia and a surprise paper... if you don't know what 'manels' are, this one's for you! Craig chats with Dr Christopher Steer, a Geriatric Oncology specialist, about papers presented at the recent ASCO meeting, including Kheng Soo’s paper on “Integrating Geriatric Assessment and Management Into Cancer Care” which Christopher hails as ‘The Rolls Royce Model of Cancer Care in Older Adults’.

Hans presents some fascinating translational studies from Nature and we also have not 1 not 2 but 3 new segments this week… you may have noticed a little competitiveness between the team so of course they had to have one each!

Today we have another fantastic edition of The Oncology Podcast. Rachael Babin is chatting again with Professor Eva Segelov, Director of Oncology at Monash Health, about COVID-19 and how it is affecting oncology services. Eva provides an update on her current practice and we chat about telehealth, clinician stress, the regional and rural experience of COVID-19, lasting changes to radiation oncology and the new educational landscape. It's a great episode!

Professor Eva Segelov is a Medical Oncologist and is Director of Oncology at Monash University and Monash Health, Melbourne, Victoria, previously Senior Medical Oncologist at St Vincent’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and St Vincent’s Clinic and Associate Professor of Medicine, University of New South Wales.

In this week's episode Rachael Babin from Oncology News Australia talks with Associate Professor Matt Naylor about his research on identifying aggressive prostate cancer and his role as a Research Integrity Advisor at Sydney University.

Matt and his team have shown that levels of the gene CBFβ are increased during prostate cancer and when they stop the gene from working, tumour growth and spread is dramatically reduced. In his latest project, Matt's team will investigate exactly how CBFβ functions and determine if levels of the gene can be used as a marker to predict if a patient will have an aggressive or slow growing form of prostate cancer.

In today's edition of The Oncology Podcast Rachael talks to Dr Michelle McDonald from the Garvan Institute about her research on bone metastasis and intravital imaging.

Dr Michelle McDonald is Group Leader of the Bone Microenvironment Group at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Her research career spans over 18 years, attaining her PhD in 2008. Her current research team aims to develop new strategies to target cells of the bone environment to prevent tumour growth both within bone and spreading from bone to other sites.

Using a specialised live animal imaging technique, Michelle visualises interactions between single tumour cells and bone cells, investigating how these interactions control the growth and behaviour of tumour cells in bone. Her work has recently attracted a number of competitive grants and spans collaborations with academic and industry partners internationally.
