He’s doing it again.

Crying every time I leave.

Begging me to bring him with me or to simply stay at home.

I find this part of motherhood so hard.

The guilt.

When he does it I start to question myself.

- Does he not see me enough?

- Should I have stayed home?

The thing is, me leaving is not about him.

It’s about ME.

It’s about what I want.

So what do I do?

I explain to him that I’m leaving to do something that makes me happy and that he’s also going to have fun with (cue loving person I’m leaving him with).

And while he cries and begs me to stay, I smile at him and say “bye have fun, love you and I’ll see you very soon.”

It’s so hard to pretend like my heart is not in pieces, but I want to teach my kids not to make mommy (or anyone) feel guilty for doing something that she loves. I would never do that to them.

Mom, dad, whoever feels this post: YOU deserve guilt free time doing what you love.
