Are you looking for God to do something incredible in your life today? There is a grave responsibility that comes with the office of anyone who presumes to speak on behalf of God. It's not something to be done lightly or casually. A prophet has to answer to God for the integrity and genuineness of their message. Jeremiah was faithful to God's heart in the message he spoke to Israel, and was severely persecuted for his faithfulness. God called Jeremiah to be a prophet in a time of great wickedness and spiritual compromise. The nation of Israel was weakened by sin. The judgment of God was looming over their northern border. God called Jeremiah to declare His truth and to call God's people to repentance; but they wouldn't listen. You might be tempted to think of his ministry as a failure. The prosperity of Israel became a backdrop for complacency and compromise. The nation had grown far from God in their hearts, and they were becoming proud of their sin. When things are going well for us, we need to be all the more diligent to remain devoted to, and dependent upon God. God has an expectation of us as His people. We will one day have to give an account to God for our lives. We can't live in disobedience to God without consequences. The book of Isaiah covers the full spectrum of God's plan for His people. He established them in grace. They turned away from Him and went after their sin. Their sins will result in judgment.
