Most conscious consumers know better than to buy processed foods for themselves, much less for their pets. Especially with the pet food industry being a $53 billion dollar unregulated industry, more and more pet parents are opting to make their own pet food because of the issues with pet food recalls and incorporation of euthanized animals in the pet foods available on the market. However, making your own pet food is not as easy as one may think. There are certain foods you cannot feed your pets and making your own food doesn't always guarantee that your finicky feline or canine will eat it. In addition, the meals must be nutritionally balanced which is often a huge problem for many pet owners, especially if they are not given proper guidance by someone who has been trained in pet nutrition. Susan Thixton, Founder of TruthAboutPetFood, a world renowned authority on pet food decided to create an actual cookbook in conjunction with Dr. Cathy Alinovi, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. The best-selling book, Dinner PAWsible, which was recently released, has been eagerly anticipated by pet parents around the globe. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, tune in to host, June Stoyer talk to Susan Thixton and Dr. Cathy Alinovi about how you can make your own pet food that is completely balanced and nutritious. Fathers Day is not always easy for many people. If you are looking at ways to improve your relationship with your father and communicate more effectively or perhaps understand the reasons behind events that have happened in the past, there is a technique called NLP that can be of great value. Neuro-linguistic programming (or NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created in the 1970s. Relationships are complex. The emotions that surround them often cloud the reality of the actual event that happened. By comprehending different perspectives, especially your Fathers, you will be able to see things differently. This will enable you to review the impact that your behavior has made upon the event/s and allow you to start healing the wounds that were created. NLP enables you to look at the relationship with your father, whether he is alive or has passed. Donna Blinston is a Registered Nurse, with a specialty in gastroenterology, the Liver and in blood bourne viruses. As a Certified Trainer of NLP she uses the tools and techniques of NLP to build a professional relationship with and enhance the lives of her patients to promote good health and wellbeing. There is a great deal of concern that our honeybees do not have enough food to eat because of the amount of pesticides being used. However, most homeowners do not realize that their demand for pristine lawns and continuously flowering plants that have low to zero maintenance are a huge part of the problem. The lack of food not only effect honeybees but other pollinators such as butterflies. Are we sacrificing sources of food so that our yards can be free from the site of plants such as clover, and dandelions, etc? Even roadside maintenance poses an issue as wildflowers and other beneficial plants are mowed down for aesthetics. Is there anything we can really do to keep our yards looking nice and not take away food from pollinators? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Vera Krischik about how we can help pollinators by practicing IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and take an active role in replenishing available food sources. Dr. Krischik is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Entomology at the U of Minnesota and an Extension Specialist in Landscape Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Stay tuned!
