The Other Half

What '90s kid doesn't remember Indian in the Cupboard? I mean this Frank Oz movie was the hit educational movie you and your friends had to watch. What was surprising was the amount of detail that went into the "historical" accuracy of the movie. Also the fact that Ethan and Mike, despite owning the VHS could not remember a single thing about the movie.

What a weird concept though. ANYTHING you put into the cupboard comes to life? What would you put in the cupboard?

Also, Omri is a strange looking kid....but all little white boys look weird.

The Black Hole was one of Disney's last forays into live-action filmmaking. It was also the most expensive film ever to be made at the time and the first Disney movie rated PG. Sadly, when you're trying to combine Star Wars and 2001: A Space Oddessy, both ingredients come out half-baked.

This is a movie Disney you think Disney would love to forget about, but actually, there are talks of a remake. To be fair, I don't think anyone has of this movie outside true hardcore cinephiles and Disney nuts. Plus the movie basically has no plot so you can make it about anything.

To be honest, this movie should be just straight up forgotten. It's no Mary Poppins or even Bed Knobs and Broomsticks.

The boys dive into Nerve, a young adult movie based on the book by the same name. The movie isn't based on a well known young adult series like The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games or Twilight, but hey, enough people liked the book to get the movie made.  This is one of those high concept movies. If you wished Black Mirror was targeted towards teens, boy do we have the film for you!

Imagine the world was the same as it is now...  but on the dark web lived a game called Nerve. It's basically like truth or dare, but not at all. People dare you to do things for money and you do the thing and you get money. The game is a direct democracy on the internet. So if you've spent more than five minutes on the internet, you know where this movie will probably going with it's message.

Technology bad? Or is people bad?! Does love conquer all?

The Other Half takes on the Brian De Palma movie, Snake Eyes. The movie itself starts off great. It even continues being great right after the second half, but somehow the last fifth of the movie complete drops the ball. It sucks because there should be more great Nic Cage movies in the world. Honestly, Nicolas Cage is fantastic in this movie. It's just weird scenes like the one below that completely undercut the rest of the beauty of this movie.

Apparently, the final act of the movie, which was a massive action sequence, was cut. Instead, the final sequence of scenes is just a complete and utter mess.

Ah well, better luck next time Mr. Cage. You're not running out of movies anytime soon.

Don't forget to check out, Scarface, the other Brian De Palma movie we have a podcast episode on! (It was actually our first one)

The boys decide to check out Split starring James McAvoy, now that there's such a thing as the "M. Night Shyamalan Universe." People say M. Night is back making good movies. The boys remain skeptical. Can Night make a movie about Dissociated Identity Disorder in a sensitive provocative way? Or is this just another stepping stone to a shocking twist?

The boys take on Mamma Mia! The infamous music which recently got a sequel as of this recording. This positions itself as a fun-filled movie staring ABBA's music, Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth. Who loves ABBA so much, they'll sit through a paper-thin plot and mediocre cinematography?? Not Ethan that's for sure!

At least it's not offensive AND bad like Love on a Leash.

The Other Half tackles, Tiptoes with first-time guest James. The movie Gary Oldman would probably love to erase off his IMDB page.  He plays a little person.... across from an actual little person (Peter Dinklage) who is French for seemingly no reason. The movie tries to tiptoe around its seemingly dark premise of bringing a child who will know a lifetime of pain romantic comedy wrappings. But no it still comes across dark as hell. It's one of those bad movies that started off trying to say something good, but then undercuts its message drastically.

"According to Peter Dinklage, the original cut of the film was "gorgeous", but the director was fired shortly after turning it in, and the people who fired him recut the film into a "rom-com with dwarves"

Also, Matthew McConaway appears in this movie as well.... but he's way less sexy as a troubled man.

Bruce Willis can make a weird movie. Part heist film/screwball comedy, it doesn't do either of those well, but it has heart and an off-putting sense of humor. Also, it's the best Assassin's Creed movie in existence.
