Today's episode was recorded during a huge storm, so you'll hear some rain and a few loud peels of thunder! This week's episode of The PanaFamilia Podcast we're sharing all about how to get a drivers license in Panama (pretty easy!) and what is is like driving around here.

Eduardo and Nicole talk about driving in small towns, busier towns, on the PanAmerican and in Panama City. Don't worry, it only took visiting Panama City 10 times to figure out how to get around without going in circles. Google Maps & Waze works great here and once you hit the middle of the country it is pretty smooth sailing, not much traffic at all.

Getting a drivers license in Panama is linked up with your residency, so we suggest using your lawyer to help you the first time. After that you just set up renewal appointments yourself. Simple hearing and vision test, $25, and you're good to go! We hope you enjoy and as always thanks for listening!

Today's episode is a fun one and all about the food and plants we grow here on our tropical farm in Panama, and how we planned out our home and farm from scratch.

We discuss how we were able to start with basically a blank slate, piece of raw pasture land and create roads that connected our out-buildings, how we decided where to put our home, where to plant trees, where to place our gardens, and how everything eventually found it's perfect place.

We discuss plants and trees that grow super easy here and plants that are more challenging. Nicole talks about her green house vegetable garden- what has worked and what has been difficult. We share about how permaculture principles gave us the foundation for how we would set up everything from the water management, to access roads, to where we put our fruit trees.

In this week's episode of The PanaFamilia Podcast, we're talking all about cell phones, cell providers, the importance of WhatsApp, what we use for cell service here in Panama, cell phone repairs and more!

If you have an AT&T unlimited plan from USA, you automatically have the Latin America plan, which means you can use your cell phone like normal down here without changing your plan. For everyone else, there are a variety of options you can choose from!

Getting cell phone service here is super easy and doesn't require long, expensive contracts. You can buy data chips at any grocery store and start using a Panamanian phone number right away.

We also discuss how important WhatsApp is in Panama, and for most of the world excluding USA. If you have wi-fi and WhatsApp, you will be able to get along quite well here, as all businesses and most people communicate through WhatsApp!

This week's episode is all about booze! (Sorry mom). Eduardo and Nicole like to enjoy an evening drink most days and thought it would be fun to share about the kind of alcohol you can find here in Panama.

We talk about local beers and local microbreweries- Casa Bruja is the best! We discuss how you can find wines from around the world here! Panama imports wines from France, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Italy, United States and more. We talk about our favorite rum, Ron Abuelo 7 años.

And we of course share about our favorite homemade cocktail, the rum and lime, perfect for the end of a long, hot, busy, sweaty day, when we're sitting on the terrazza watching our cows and the sunset, with the kids running around.

Hi guys! Today Eduardo and Nicole talk all about parenting. We share how wonderful and fulfilling it is to be parents, even through all the challenges and difficult times. We talk about how once you have multiple kids, your family actually runs smoother and you have more time for yourself because lots of kids means they can help each other sometimes.

We talk about how children are an integral part of a family and society and not just little "annoyances" that get in the way until they grow up. (We were all kids once, right?) We talk about unschooling a little bit.

We share how giving kids freedom to do what they enjoy, find their own interests, and entertain themselves produces creative, forward thinking children versus kids that are just bossed around all day long and have no mind of their own.

Another thing we discuss is allowing kids to learn conflict resolution on their own - by not always stepping in to ease arguments, fights or disagreements.

In today's episode we're excited to share about our trip for Nicole's 40th birthday to Bogota, Colombia! We took our three young children for a 5 day trip to Bogota back in March and had an amazing time!

In this episode, we share the different museums we went to and how great they were; the delicious restaurants we went to; how much we loved the botanical gardens and how Eduardo almost cried when we ate the most amazing pozole at a small Mexican restaurant there.

We would recommend Bogota to anyone looking to get some cool weather, amazing architecture, good coffee and wonderful museums (at a very affordable price). Check it out!

Eduardo thought it would be really fun to do an episode on the 2026 World Cup this week. When this episode is released it will be the day after the Final Game, we recorded before the final game, so we didn't know the winners yet.

Living in Panama, we have seen first hand how excited basically every other country outside of the USA gets over fútbol (soccer)! Restaurants and shops have flags up everywhere, every store is selling FIFA balls, hats and jerseys. Watch parties have been happening all month and we have been watching a lot of soccer in our house!

The boys have really gotten into the games and playing soccer all the time now! It has been fun to see the excitement between all the boys and Eduardo, as he grew up watching the World Cup and other fútbol games with his dad - so he is carrying on the family traditions.

Today we celebrate America's 250th Independence Day and our 3rd independence day from America. haha. Eduardo and Nicole reflect on leaving the USA 3 years ago and share a little bit about those hectic days, feelings, and what is what like to leave everything behind.

Then we ask each other, are we still sure this is the right place for us? Eduardo travels extensively in Latin America for work - so Nicole asks him if he would choose a different spot or is he still glad we chose Panama?

What do we love about our life here and what does it feel like to have been gone from the USA for 3. years, raising three little boys here, learning how to fit in here, making connections; and do we finally feel settled in our home here? Listen to all that and more in today's episode.
