Today we celebrate America's 250th Independence Day and our 3rd independence day from America. haha. Eduardo and Nicole reflect on leaving the USA 3 years ago and share a little bit about those hectic days, feelings, and what is what like to leave everything behind.

Then we ask each other, are we still sure this is the right place for us? Eduardo travels extensively in Latin America for work - so Nicole asks him if he would choose a different spot or is he still glad we chose Panama?

What do we love about our life here and what does it feel like to have been gone from the USA for 3. years, raising three little boys here, learning how to fit in here, making connections; and do we finally feel settled in our home here? Listen to all that and more in today's episode.

Today Eduardo and Nicole share what a typical day on our tropical farm here in Panama looks like. We wake up and have coffee watching the sunrise, get to work on outdoor projects/garden stuff; hang laundry out to dry; milk cows; cook and clean; relaxed homeschool activities with the boys and more.

We discuss what we eat in a day; what shows we let our kids watch; how we divide tasks; what fills up our time; what our kids spend their time doing and more. We love that most of our time is spent outdoors.

We lead a pretty peaceful life that is busy with daily tasks, but with plenty of room to sit down and relax, read a book to the kids; have an evening drink, or enjoy a surprise visit from a neighbor. We always go to the beach on the weekends and sometimes during the week and add in extra fun activities like kids play-days and farmers markets here and there.

This week, Eduardo & Nicole discuss their recent trip to visit Panama City. Panama City is about a 6 hour drive from Las Lajas, Chiriqui where they live. They talk about an amazing steakhouse they ate at for the first time and fell in love with. They also share about the process of renewing their children's passports at the USA embassy in Panama City. If you're staying in Panama City for a trip, they suggest Megapolis, especially for the amazing breakfast buffet that is included in the price of the room.

In today's episode, Eduardo and Nicole discuss something that they have talked about before, but with a bit more information for those of you who may be considering purchasing property in Panama. We start by giving a general guideline of how purchasing property in Panama works, who can buy land/property in Panama (spoiler: anyone!), how the process works and how long it takes.

We then share our personal experience of looking at properties, making an offer on our property, and completing the process of buying raw land here in Chiriqui, Panama. We wanted to share our POSITIVE story because a lot of people shared negative stories with us when we first moved here. If you work with people you trust and are smart about not taking shortcuts during this process, purchasing land or a home here in Panama can be a very positive experience.

In today's episode Eduardo & Nicole talk all about where they source their food in Panama. Because we live in the Chiriquí Province, we shop mostly in David and a bit up towards Boquete. We list all the different store (big and small) that we shop at, as well as the regenerative farm we make weekly orders at for veggies & meat.

We share how it took us a while to find all these great sources of quality food, but now we have a great grocery shopping route and have connected with a lot of great people and businesses to eat really good. If we have a special meal or celebration, we can usually always find the ingredients we're looking for. We cook at home 95% of the time and always involve the kids in helping with our meals. If you live in Panama or are thinking of moving here, this would be a great episode for your to listen to!

Today we share all about our recent trip to Santa Catalina, Panama. Santa Catalina is a surf destination in Panama that we have been wanting to visit ever since we moved here. It is about 2 hours off the PanAmerican highway, but there is a lot to do in this little town in Panama. Surfing and other water activities are very popular here. The town of Santa Catalina, Panama is walkable with lots of great little restaurants, cafes and bars. We thought it was better suited to a younger crowd, but if you like to surf or are looking for some nightlife, this is the place for you!

We are back after a bit of a hiatus. We finally got internet at our dome and now it is much easier to upload podcast episodes, so we are hoping to stay consistent again.

Today we discuss the tropical storm that hit Panama during November 2024. There was significantly more rain than usual for that time of year (end of rainy season). We talk about how our farm and dome handled all the water; all the mud play the kids did; what is was like to have super cool weather here and actually put on sweaters! There was flooding in other parts of Panama and we share a bit about that.

In this Friday’s episode we dive into our solar power system! Our original plan was to connect to the grid and have a backup solar system, but that all changed when we got a quote for the thick cables that we needed to get power from the road to our house about 200 yards from the road.

Listen to learn more about why we decided to go fully off-grid; what it was like finding a solar company down here; the process of getting the whole system set up; turning power on for the first time; and what we’ve experienced using it so far.

Panama is very close to the equator and therefore gets a lot of sun all year long, so we are very happy to be utilizing the power of the sun!
