While Lori is taking a much needed break, Lisa is holding down the fort with our first candidate conversation of 2026!

Today, we welcome Abel Chavez , candidate for Congress. Abel is running to bring big, practical change to Capitol Hill and to everyday families across California.

Abel Chavez isn’t your typical politician. He’s a former high school science teacher, a successful small business owner, and a school board president who knows firsthand what it takes to improve our schools and fight for working families.

Here are five high notes you’ll want to hear about his vision:

🎯 1. A California We Can Afford — Abel’s campaign is all about tackling the skyrocketing cost of living — from rent and utilities to healthcare — so families don’t have to choose between basics and stability.

📚 2. Putting Education First — With deep experience in the classroom and as a board president who boosted test scores and secured millions in funding, Abel is laser-focused on strengthening schools, supporting teachers, and lifting student opportunity across the district.

🏡 3. Real Solutions for Housing — He’s calling for policies that keep homes affordable for local families — not Wall Street investors — because owning a home shouldn’t be out of reach for hardworking people.

🩺 4. Healthcare Without Barriers — Abel believes healthcare should be accessible and affordable for all, not just profit centers — reflecting his commitment to community wellbeing.

👥 5. A Movement Built on People, Not Special Interests — Abel refuses corporate money, choosing instead to run a campaign rooted in grassroots empowerment and service to everyday people.

And that’s just the beginning — Abel’s vision also includes solutions for homelessness, safer schools, support for local businesses, and bringing high-speed internet to every family.

We start with shop talk and roll right into it!

Will this be a defining moment when the #MAGA spell is broken and people flee the current Republican party? Will #MTG rise in the ranks to break the conservative cock block they've had on allowing women to truly lead? Is all this a giant puppet string pulling for us to stop paying attention to the crashing economy?

Welcome to the Parlour with Lori and Lisa, Season 5, Ep. 1. We were taking a little break, but are back and ready to bring you regularly scheduled episodes. Thank you for joining us!

Okay, so the episode title needs a little context. We were talking about how other women podcasters curse way more than we do and, while Lisa is pretty good about dropping an occasional f-bomb, Lori thinks we should let it rip a little more! We're sick of shite, too and nothing expresses it more than a strategically placed f-bomb!
