Probabilmente non basterebbe un film per raccontare la storia di Gian Carlo Minardi nel motorsport, ma sicuramente basta una breve chiacchierata per percepire la passione che lo lega a questa disciplina. Noi di The Pass l’abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola in occasione dell’ACI Racing Weekend, evento al quale Gian Carlo era presente in veste di Presidente di Formula Imola e Presidente della Commissione Velocità in Circuito ACI Sport. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Gian Carlo ha fatto emergere il coraggio che gli ha permesso di trasformare un grande sogno in realtà e successivamente di lasciarlo andare, ammettendo di non avere rimpianti.

Cresciuto nella concessionaria FIAT di famiglia, le macchine diventano presto una calamita per il faentino classe 1947, che si tuffa nelle corse appena ne ha l’occasione. Il suo percorso alle redini di una squadra parte nel 1972 con la Scuderia del Passatore, rinominata poi Scuderia Everest, dove getta le basi per fondare nel 1979 il Minardi Team. La carriera da costruttore è piena di insidie, ma la sua dedizione gli consente di superarle e nel 1985 debutta in Formula 1, fornendo una rampa di lancio per tanti giovani talenti e guadagnandosi la stima di leader quali Enzo Ferrari. Dai primi passi con un piccolo team ai 21 anni con la sua squadra nella classe regina dell’automobilismo, vissuti sempre con lo stesso approccio del buon padre di famiglia, tra pazzie, soddisfazioni e rischi di cui Gian Carlo ci ha parlato.

Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione da Presidente della Commissione Velocità in Circuito ACI Sport, Supervisore della Scuola Federale ACI Sport e Presidente dell’AC Ravenna, Gian Carlo insegna che non è mai troppo tardi per sfidare e migliorare sé stessi, anche perché ci sono sempre nuovi obiettivi da raggiungere e limiti che possono essere superati.

From the first steps with a small team to twenty-one years at the pinnacle of motorsport, always living with the same approach of a good family man, amidst crazy moments, achievements and risks that Gian Carlo told us about.

Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Nazionale Monza in occasione dell’ACI Racing Weekend, evento al quale Guido era presente in veste di telecronista di ACI Sport e della Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. Quando parla del suo sogno sfumato, Marco Antonelli sembra provare una malinconia che ha saputo accettare, ma che lascia ancora un po’ di amaro in bocca. Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Nazionale Monza in occasione di un Test Kateyama, evento al quale Marco era presente in veste di team principal della sua squadra AKM Motorsport. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Marco ha precisato ciò che gli è mancato per diventare un pilota professionista e ciò che ha imparato a fare per lasciare comunque il segno nel motorsport, rivelando anche che non avrebbe voluto trasmettere questa passione a suo figlio.

Il bolognese classe 1964 entra nel mondo delle competizioni con un approccio genuino: debutta su un piccolo circuito vicino all'aeroporto della sua città natale, al volante di stock car “fatte in casa” e ricavate da auto destinate alla demolizione. Costretto a inventarsi un modo per finanziare la sua carriera, comincia anche a preparare le macchine di altri piloti in qualità di meccanico. È proprio grazie a questo duplice ruolo e ai suoi successi in pista che arriva fino al Campionato Italiano Superturismo, prima di essere chiamato da Alfa Romeo per provare il DTM. Quando vede svanire la possibilità di raggiungere il suo obiettivo a un passo dal professionismo, l’amore incondizionato per le corse lo convince a non mollare e a dedicare comunque tutta la sua vita al motorsport, cambiando semplicemente direzione: fonda il suo team nel 1993, costruendo la propria realtà artigianalmente e facendo i conti con i compromessi che Marco ci ha raccontato.

Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione da team principal di Antonelli Motorsport e AKM Motorsport mentre segue da vicino la carriera del figlio Kimi in Formula 1, Marco insegna che la passione va oltre la delusione e ti porta a fare di tutto pur di continuare a viverla, senza sentire il peso di sforzi e sacrifici.

Forced to find a way to fund his career, he also begins to prepare other drivers’ cars as a mechanic. It is precisely thanks to this dual role and his successes on track that he makes it to the Italian Superturismo Championship, before being called by Alfa Romeo for a DTM test. When he sees the possibility of reaching his goal fade away just one step away from professionalism, his unconditional love for racing convinces him not to give up and to dedicate his entire life to motorsport, simply changing direction: he founds his own team in 1993, building his project from the ground up and dealing with the compromises that Marco told us about.

Throughout our Track Talk, James reflected on the sacrifices he made in the name of his dream, underlining how important it is to take responsibility for your decisions, even at a young age. 

The Australian born in 2006 isn’t meant to be driving on racetracks, but he falls in love with motorsport and moves from his home country to Europe when he is just a child in order to pursue a career. From karting to cars, from the first victories to the titles of Formula 4 UAE champion and Euro 4 vice champion: as the desire to win keeps him motivated and his confidence grows, living on the other side of the world and staying so far away from part of his family becomes second nature. This is how a kid who is too scared to race grows into a young man who chases the goal of reaching Formula 1, going back to basics when things don’t go as planned and facing the solitude as well as the setbacks that James told us about.

Currently racing in his debut season in FIA Formula 3 with the ART Grand Prix team after being crowned FRECA vice champion, James helps us to understand that there are multiple roads to success, which become less steep when travelled with people who support you along the way.

È così che un bambino che ha paura di gareggiare si trasforma in un giovane uomo che insegue l’obiettivo di raggiungere la Formula 1, tornando alle fondamenta quando le cose non vanno secondo i piani e affrontando la solitudine così come le battute d’arresto di cui James ci ha parlato.

Attualmente impegnato nella sua stagione d’esordio in FIA Formula 3 con il team ART Grand Prix dopo essersi laureato vicecampione del FRECA, James aiuta a capire che esistono molteplici strade verso il successo, che diventano meno ripide se percorse con persone pronte a sostenerti lungo il cammino.

Dai successi in un campionato monomarca alle avventure internazionali nella categoria regina, dalle gare in veste di meccanica alla proposta di prendere in mano le redini della squadra di una delle case costruttrici più storiche e blasonate nel mondo del karting: un percorso fatto di costanza e allo stesso tempo di cambiamenti, trovando sempre la forza di reagire alle difficoltà e alla frustrazione che Natalia ci ha raccontato.

Attualmente impegnata in un’altra stagione da team manager del reparto corse CRG, Natalia dimostra che si possono affrontare anche i più grandi momenti di stallo, dando tempo al tempo per tornare a stare bene e a godersi la propria passione.

An epileptic seizure brings his racing career to an end, but the Briton born in 1993 realises that he can’t abandon his passion. This leads him to borrow some cameras from his college to start filming karting races with a group of friends and he soon finds himself with a microphone in his hands. From the first experiences to a full-time job, commentating on prestigious championships, including F1 on F1 Kids, F2, F3, Porsche Supercup and WEC (becoming the “English voice” of the 24 Hours of Le Mans), while narrating the rise of young talents such as Oliver Bearman, Isack Hadjar and Gabriele Minì: a daily effort to stay in the world he loves after finding the courage to speak about fears and psychological challenges, which Chris told us about.

La mentalità di Alberto Di Folco sembra dettare il ritmo di un inno alla perseveranza. Il teenager che attira l’attenzione della Ferrari Driver Academy e prova persino una Lamborghini Gallardo a soli 15 anni si trasforma gradualmente nell’adulto in grado di entrare nel programma Young Driver della casa di Sant’Agata Bolognese per poi aggiudicarsi diversi successi nelle competizioni GT, tra cui la vittoria del Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europa nella categoria PRO-AM. Vedendo nel motorsport il suo psicologo, impara a credere sempre nei propri sogni, a fare amicizia con la pressione e a convivere con la sensibilità di cui Alberto ci ha parlato.

Attualmente impegnato in veste di pilota, istruttore ufficiale Lamborghini e brand ambassador di Lamborghini Genève e RaceX così come con Too Fast Management, Alberto dimostra che non si finisce mai di conoscere sé stessi e che è importante ricordarsi sempre da dove si è partiti.

Alberto Di Folco’s mentality seems to set the rhythm of a hymn to perseverance. We at The Pass met him at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the occasion of the ACI Racing Weekend, an event that Alberto attended to compete in the fourth and final round of the Italian Gran Turismo Endurance Championship with the Vincenzo Sospiri Racing team. Throughout our Track Talk, Alberto narrated the path that taught him how to manage emotions both on the racetrack and in daily life, explaining the role played by martial arts and yoga in his growth as a driver and as a person.

The Roman born in 1996 realises that speed runs through his veins when, sitting in the car at the age of five, he asks father Alberto to accelerate. It is only the first of many stimuli that lead him to get behind the wheel of a go-kart to definitely fall in love with racing and quickly become a protagonist together with other young talents such as Charles Leclerc, Alex Albon, George Russell and Max Verstappen. The teenager who attracts the attention of the Ferrari Driver Academy and even tests a Lamborghini Gallardo when he is just 15 years old gradually turns into the adult capable of entering the Young Driver Program of the company based in Sant’Agata Bolognese to then achieve several successes, including the victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe in the PRO-AM category. Seeing motorsport as his psychologist, he learns to always believe in his dreams, make friends with pressure and cope with his sensitivity, which Alberto told us about.

We at The Pass met him at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on the occasion of the ACI Racing Weekend, an event that Ian attended as WSK Promotion’s commentator for the Italian F4 Championship. Throughout our Track Talk, Ian shared thoughts, emotions and anecdotes collected during his life on racetracks around the world, highlighting the privileges and responsibilities that come with his profession. 

The Australian begins to express his passion for motorsport at the wheel of go-karts and, after several years of racing, turns it into his job. The lack of hunger for victory as a driver translates into the constant motivation to excel as a commentator, driven by what he himself defines as an obsession. Inventor of famous nicknames for drivers, including the future champions of Formula 1 as well as of other categories, he tackles his professional challenges with tenacity, developing a conflictual relationship with mistakes and focusing both on the capacity to calibrate words and on the task of bringing viewers close to the action, which Ian told us about. 

Currently working on the final part of another season with WSK Promotion, mainly narrating international karting and Formula 4 after also being official event commentator at the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d’Italia 2024, Ian teaches that the love for your job naturally coincides with the aptitude to do it to the best of your ability.

Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato al Franciacorta Karting Track in occasione del Round 1 della WSK Open Series, evento al quale Alex era presente per competere nella categoria regina del karting con il Drago Corse Racing Team, e per la prima volta siamo stati ospitati da WSK Promotion nella WSK Business Lounge. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Alex ha parlato apertamente degli insegnamenti appresi in anni di motorsport così come delle ragioni per cui ha scelto di tornare a gareggiare dopo essersi allontanato dalla propria passione, enfatizzando la rilevanza dell’ambiente che una persona può creare attorno a sé.  

È un legame innato quello destinato a consolidarsi tra il motorsport e il barese classe 2000, subito attratto dalle corse e desideroso di emulare papà Pasquale. Cresciuto tra le salite delle cronoscalate e i circuiti di go-kart, emerge velocemente nelle competizioni internazionali e colleziona diverse vittorie, tra cui il trionfo nella CIK-FIA International Super Cup. Sognatore e realista allo stesso tempo, trova nelle espressioni più pure della guida l’energia necessaria a superare gli ostacoli incontrati lungo un percorso pieno di divertimento e soddisfazioni, ma anche di delusioni, sensi di colpa e contraddizioni che Alex ci ha raccontato.

Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione kartistica da pilota ufficiale, Alex aiuta a capire che rimanere con i piedi per terra nei momenti più esaltanti e mantenere la calma nei momenti più complicati permette di affrontare le sfide con maggiore lucidità, sia in pista sia nella vita quotidiana.

A chat with Alex Irlando allows you to savour the small things. We at The Pass met him at the Franciacorta Karting Track on the occasion of Round 1 of the WSK Open Series, an event that Alex attended to compete in the premier class of karting with the Drago Corse Racing Team, and we were hosted by WSK Promotion in the WSK Business Lounge for the first time. Throughout our Track Talk, Alex spoke openly about the lessons learnt over years of motorsport as well as the reasons why he chose to return to racing after moving away from his passion, emphasising the relevance of the environment that people can create around themselves. 

An innate bond is destined to develop between motorsport and the native of Bari born in 2000, as he is immediately attracted to racing and eager to emulate father Pasquale. Raised among hill climb courses and go-kart circuits, he quickly stands out in international competitions and clinches several victories, including the triumph in the CIK-FIA International Super Cup. A dreamer and a realist at the same time, he finds in the purest expressions of driving the necessary energy to overcome the obstacles encountered along a path full of fun and satisfaction, but also of disappointments, sense of guilt and contradictions that Alex told us about.

Currently racing in another karting season as a factory driver, Alex helps us to understand that staying grounded in the most exhilarating moments and keeping calm in the most complicated ones allows you to face challenges with greater lucidity.
