Anne Barnes talks about her unbelievable journey through 3 miscarriages that lead to her now happy, healthy, and nearly finished pregnancy.

The pain of a miscarriage is a pain that Anne Barnes of Towanda, IL (formerly Anne Garcia of Fairbury, IL) knows all too well. She has experienced the heartbreak of losing a baby during pregnancy an astounding three times in her still marriage of just under three years. By the grace of God, however, Anne is now, for the first time in her life, healthily pregnant and entering the 3rd trimester (over 6 months)!

In this conversation, Anne bravely walks us through her journey, the medical reasons for her failed pregnancies, the feelings and emotions she felt after her first, second, and third failed pregnancies, her battles with her faith, and her husband’s role throughout the process, and much more. I deeply admire Anne’s bravery in coming onto my show to discuss her very personal experience, and I also love her very much and am proud to call her my sister.

Anne’s story is one of incredible sadness and even more incredible hope, faith, and even a miracle! She and her husband, Patrick, visited The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in New Franken, Wisconsin after a long bout of miscarrying and failing to get pregnant. The two are devout Catholics and credit this pregnancy to God firstly, and also to the Blessed Virgin Mary's prayers for them. Their story is sure to tug on your heartstrings and lift your spirits.

Dr. Diane Wolf has been in the education world for 30 years and still loves it! She's currently the Assistant Superintendent of Bloomington School District 87*, but in the past has served as the Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools is McLean, Livingston, Logan, and DeWitt counties, a former high school English teacher, and has "taught teachers" as her kids say, in her roles in professional development for educators & administrators in over 30 school districts across the country. That role has included Diane speaking to crowds of over 1,800 people!

In today's conversation, the member of Leadership Illinois, McLean County Leadership Program, ISU’s College of Education Hall of Fame, and recipient of the Steve and Sandi Adams Student Affairs Leadership Award speaks with me about why (and if) teachers are leaving the profession in droves, the importance of developing meaningful connections with students and how to do so, whether teachers should have the option of declining using students preferred pronouns, eliminating D's and F's from the grading scales, inspiring stories of hard-to-handle students, how education has changed, and the rise of school shootings and the precautions we should and should not take!

NOTE: The views expressed by Dr. Diane are not necessarily the views of District 87 at large. These are her own thoughts and opinions and should be viewed as separate from the District.

Erik Rankin is an author, a professor at ISU, a father, a husband, a former local politician, and a brilliant political mind. In this episode, we discuss a range of hot political topics, from gun rights and abortion to gerrymandering in Illinois and term limits. You'll find this episode captivating and enlightening, and perhaps you'll even crack a smile or laugh.  And although Erik is a staunch democrat, his views can seem conservative, and to him, that's quite alright.

Here's a little more bit about Erik.

Education: Originally from Normal, IL, Erik is a Normal Community High School and Illinois State University Grad, where he earned a MS in Political Science and a BA in Human Geography, he also went to George Washington Univerity where he earned his MS in Campaign Political Management. Erik's extensive education and superb public speaking skills are just a couple of the reasons why he boasts a 99%+ rating on "Rate my Professor" - a public website where students honesty (and often viciously) rate their experience in a professors class.

Political Experience: Erik was elected Chair of the McLean County Democratic Party (2018-2020) and elected to the McLean County Board (2008-2018). He is also the Director of Enrollment Management and Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Politics & Government at ISU.

Scott Murphy is the author of "The Term Limit Revolution - A citizen's guide to why we need term limits and a simple strategy for getting them." Incumbents in congress who stand for re-election get re-elected more than 90% of the time, despite only 11% of the country approving of them. Saddam Hussein had a higher approval rating after the US invaded Iraq, and he was captured and hanged…

In this episode, Scott pulls back the curtain exposing tricks of the trade the political elite use to maintain their power. Over 75% of Americans want term limits for Congress. Yet, few people believe they will ever be implemented. We discussed why Term Limit's are necessary and how we can make them reality, the abuses career politicians are perpetrating on those they should represent, and how exactly they make laws to benefit themselves. This and more.
