The Treaty Principles Bill has been unleashed. In Parliament the Bill was introduced to impassioned objection that came with speeches that saw MPs kicked out and and Haka which shook the building, resigned acceptance from coalition that while they’re clearly anti Maori policy pushers they’re not THAT anti-Maori. 

But the Bill itself is surrounded by a sales pitch designed to mislead and pander, over simplifying issues and ignoring history and precedent.

Tuesday was a historic day for the country in multiple ways - we saw the government apology for abuse suffered in state and faith based care and the Hikoi protesting David Seymours divisive Treaty Principles Bill made their way to Auckland. And there’s an important lesson for all of us from both of these.

But a few days later the government decided to block a media team member from the Abuse in State Care apology who has been covering the issue for almost a decade despite meeting all the accreditation criteria and no formal complaints.
