In 2019, a historic amendment was passed unanimously through Parliament, lowering the voting age to 18 years old. The amendment also mandated automatic voter registration.
This achievement largely due to the remarkable work of an advocacy organisation, Undi18, which campaigned energetically for two years before it passed into law.
Fast forward to 2021, Undi18 continues its work while many questions still remain over the status of this reform, including when it will be fully implemented, and how it will change youth participation in politics.
We have Davina Devarajan, a Programme Associate with Undi18 to discuss the status of the amendment, their initiatives to increase youth participation in politics and more!
