The Pigskin Party Podcast - NFL Football

It's like old times on the PPP as it's just Brian and Will while Tommy's on a beach in Maui. The first full week of preseason games is in the books and the division previews continue. This week's guest is Tracy Sandler, Founder and CEO of the Fan Girl Sports Network as well as a 49ers beat reporter. Brian and Will give their thoughts on the preseason action, including Tim Tebow's poor attempt at run blocking and the performances of the rookie QBs. First, they break down what to expect out of the NFC West this season.

Will it be business as usual for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks or will they regress? Does the Matt Stafford/Sean McVay combo make the Rams a Super Bowl contender? Does Kyler Murray finally make the leap and lead the Cardinals out of mediocrity? Can the 49ers avoid the recurring injury bug and regain their Super Bowl prowess of two seasons ago?

The preseason is in full swing as Brian, Will and Tommy bring back Jeff Schiesser of The Year We Started A Podcast. PPP Writer Ross Crawford wrote a Division Power Rankings article for pigskinpartypodcast.com and the guys break it down for this week's FotW topic.

For this week's Palate Cleanser, the crew talk about what their go-to snacks are when watching football. Let's just say there are some unorthodox choices.

Another week, another giant step closer to the 2021 NFL season! Brian, Will and Tommy bring on multiple-repeat guest Jeff Schiesser, co-host of The Year We Started A Podcast and lifelong Chiefs fan. It's time to preview the AFC West, but first the guys jump into a few NFL headlines including new  contracts for QB Josh Allen, LB Darius Leonard and CB Xavien Howard. They also discuss Saquon Barkley getting activated off the PUP list and being cleared to practice. Then they dive into the AFC West to take a look ahead and make their predictions for the upcoming season.

Will Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs continue their dominance of the division and the entire AFC? Will the Raiders be legitimate this year or will Jon Gruden's team continue to underperform? Is Justin Herbert the next MVP-caliber QB for the Chargers? Can the Broncos get enough out of the QB position to make a playoff run with an otherwise talented roster?

Now this is a party! It's just the PPP crew for this one as Brian, Will and Tommy bring in their Producer, Anthony, from behind the digital glass. The energy is high as the guys record their third episode of the week! The Flavor of the Week sees the PPP draft their inaugural All-PPPro team where each of them takes turns picking the best offensive players at each position. Tune in to hear which 11 starters made the squad and they even pick a kicker! The surprises start right off the bat so you'll definitely want to check it out.

First, this week's Palate Cleanser is all about the 1999 sci-fi classic, The Matrix as well as its sequels. Just in time for The Matrix 4 due out later this year. Enjoy!

After a long and deep conversation with former NFL QB Erik Kramer in a stand-alone bonus episode, Brian, Will and Tommy are here to preview the NFC North! Erik sticks around and gives his personal insight as a former starting QB for both the Lions and the Bears. The guys are also joined by repeat guest Ty Schalter, who covers the NFL for FiveThirtyEight and also co-hosts the 3 And Out NFL podcast. The crew starts by breaking down the biggest news of the day as Colts' QB Carson Wentz undergoes foot surgery. Then it's on to the NFC North.

Is it Super Bowl or bust for the Packers now that Aaron Rodgers has returned for his "last dance" in Green Bay? How soon should Justin Fields start for the Bears? Are the Vikings a sleeper playoff team or will Kirk Cousins hold them back? Will the Lions make any noise this season and what is their outlook over the next few years under new Head Coach Dan Campbell?

As you'll hear from the cold open, this was originally intended to be a regular main NFL episode of the PPP, with special guest Erik Kramer, who started at QB for the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears back in the 90's. However, Erik has a very special story to share - both tragic and uplifting - that necessitated a stand alone bonus episode. It's worth hearing in its entirety. Stay tuned for the regular main episode where Erik sticks around to discuss the latest news and helps us preview the NFC North. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this bonus episode with Erik.

Brian and Tommy carry the torch with Will out again. They bring on special guest Corbin K. Smith, Seattle Seahawks reporter for Sports Illustrated and host of the Locked On Seahawks podcast. They get things started with this week's Palate Cleanser, which sees the guys talk about their favorite sports from the Summer Olympics. Afterwards, the crew goes deep on the Seahawks with Corbin. Naturally, there was plenty of Russell Wilson talk.

It's Brian and Tommy this week as Will is unable to make it, forcing Tommy into the heel role for this week's main NFL episode. The PPP brings back two repeat guests in Regina Wright of The Undroppables and the She Talks Football podcast as well as Samantha Holt of The Fantasy Debate with Sam and Tate. With Regina the Ravens fan and Sam the Steelers fan, it's time to preview the AFC North. Will the Steelers be able to bounce back after such a disappointing end to the 2020 season? Can Lamar Jackson make enough of a leap as a passer to lead the Ravens deep in the playoffs? Was last season a fluke for the Browns or are they the favorite to win the division this year? How bad will the Bengals be or can QB Joe Burrow take this team to new heights in his second season?

After the division breakdown, there's a ton of big news to discuss including fines and possible game forfeitures as part of the NFL's vaccine/Covid-19 protocols, Michael Thomas and Chandler Jones. Lastly, the crew chats about Deshaun Watson reporting to training camp and the Texans officially making him available for trade followed by the huge news that Aaron Rodgers will be back for the Packers in 2021. 2022? Well, that's a different story.

It's time for another Flavor of the Week as we inch closer to the start of NFL training camps. Brian, Will and Tommy bring back Neal Thrailkill of the 2 Tight Ends podcast, fresh off the NFC East Preview episode. This week's topic asks the question, "Which NFL players are seemingly loved across all fanbases?" After a lively debate, can the guys agree on even a single player?

But first, this week's Palate Cleanser is all about the Disney+ MCU show, LOKI.

Division previews continue as Brian, Will and Tommy welcome Neal Thrailkill of the 2 Tight Ends podcast back to the show for the third time. The guys kick things off by discussing the disappointing news that Rams' RB Cam Akers has torn his Achilles tendon and will mess the 2021 season. They follow that up with a discussion of Richard Sherman's domestic incident as well as his future in the league before doing some quick news hits around the league. With Tommy the Eagles fan and Neal the Washington Football Team fan, the NFC East is on the docket this week to preview. Can Washington be the first NFC East repeat winner in 17 seasons? Can the Cowboys' defense improve enough to help Dak Prescott and the offense thrive? Does Daniel Jones make a Josh Allen-like leap in his third season for the Gianta? Finally, just how bad will the Eagles be this year?
