The Pitching Command Show with guest Tom Hackimer , former Mets, Twins MiLB side arm pitcher now with the LI Ducks.
With everyone throwing hard nowadays, command is now the separator.
It’s no longer a choice between being either a power pitcher or a finesse pitcher today. You need to be both, velocity with command. Command is what separates pitchers from the pack today.
Tom had great success in college baseball at St. John’s , and was drafted by the Mets in the 15th round in 2015, and then the Twins in the 4th round in 2016. He made it to the Mets AAA with a MiLB record of 18-11 with 3.13 ERA and 28 saves in 150 games, striking out 247 batters in 210 innings before his injury and Tommy John surgery. Now working his way back to affiliated ball with the LI Ducks.
A great discussion about training and measuring pitching control, command, sequencing and what it takes to pitch at higher levels of baseball.
