What is a Podcast anyway?
New products and services are claiming they make "Podcasts" and there's a lot of debate.
And confusion.
And frustration.
And people claiming malice.
Or is it stupidity?
How do we make sense of this industry?

We, as an industry, are giving way too much attention to experience, and not enough attention to expertise. It's not how much anyone has done in this space, it's what results have they seen.
When we, as an industry, stop celebrating time over results, we'll grow in some amazing ways.
If you are looking for a podcast consultant, look for expertise over experience.
If you are looking to become a podcast consultant, promote your expertise over your experience.
Big Idea –
Don't confuse experience with expertise.

John Lee Dumas sees more money from products made for his audience than he does ads read to his audience.
He made more than $81,000 dollars in July of 2016 from podcast sponsor revenue, yet decided to tell Midroll he was going to do things differently starting August.
Sponsor revenue went up in August - and he KILLED THE PREROLL - but that's not the entire story.
John is more interested in growing his audience than he is growing his sponsorship revenue.
Season 3 of The Podcast Industry report is all about leadership. John Lee Dumas is a leader in our industry and has a lot to teach us.

In this episode of The Podcast Industry Report, host Paul Colligan kicks off Season 3 by delving into the significant influence of Apple in the podcasting world. Despite the challenges and frustrations podcasters may face with Apple's secretive nature and limited support, Apple remains the 800-pound gorilla in the industry, commanding approximately 80% of podcast listeners. Paul shares seven essential strategies to help podcasters navigate Apple's dominance, optimize their presence on the platform, and ultimately reach more with their message while profiting more from their content.
Key Takeaways: • Understand What Really Matters in iTunes – Focus on factors that genuinely impact your podcast's visibility and success on Apple Podcasts, and ignore myths and outdated tactics. • Optimize Your Podcast's Appearance in Apple Podcasts – Ensure your show looks professional and appealing to attract and retain listeners within the Apple ecosystem. • Regularly Monitor Your Podcast on Apple Podcasts – Check your show's listing frequently to catch and resolve any issues promptly. • Maintain Your Associated Email Address – Keep the email linked to your Apple Podcasts account active to ensure continued access and communication. • Adhere to Apple's Rating Guidelines – Properly categorize your podcast's content rating to avoid misclassification or penalties. • Embrace Video Podcasting – Recognize the growing importance of video podcasts and consider incorporating video content, especially with platforms like Apple TV gaining traction. • Consider Forking Your Feed – Explore the option of creating separate podcast feeds for different platforms to tailor content and optimize distribution.
