It is tempting to think of seasons in terms of mangos. In fact whenever people say they are in a certain season, I like to ask but I don't get to, if those people are mangoes. But it is pointless to ask a human if they are a mango unless you want to squeeze them for juice which is not what happened in this episode.

We had a young man in the studio, arguably the youngest guest we've ever had. He spoke about his life in seasons. The way deep hippies do.“I am in this season of my life...”

Although he did not get to sing on air, we believe he is a great musician. That is what we do. We believe in people.

Look at us believing in Brian's music career even even his own relatives said “Brian wewe ni kijana wetu, lakini hakuna mwimbaji hapa,” a long time ago.

Anyway, the young man is an emperor with high flying dreams. The pun here is fully intended because he is in aviation school, flying his dreams of becoming a pilot. We wish him well.

He keeps an afro that he combs to the front. A proper Gen Z with opinions and a zodiac sign he swears by.

He thought Brian was 47, as at the time of shooting this episode which we wish to clarify. The high flying emperor understated Brian's age. We all know Brian has been alive since the days of the other Emperor. His imperial majesty Emperor Haile Selassie. Not our story for today though.

We felt younger going through his present troubles. Things we may or may have not gone through at least ten years past. Again not the story.

In this episode, we concured that women will wait until it is 2AM to send you a winding breakup text. The line, “it it not you it is me,” sticking out like a sour pimple.

At 2 AM, the cock is yet to crow three times for Peter to deny Jesus. At 2 AM, they haven't even thought of adding extra taxes to our already thinning incomes. At 2 AM, even the devil is asleep. Which begs the question, “why do they wait until 2 AM to break up with you through a text?

Anyway, no man is fully a man until that text waltzes on your screen. And when it does, you have two options, either call her and ask her, kwani ulimkosea nini or wear the pants properly and swim across the pond and find another one that will probably leave you at 2AM.

It is hard being a man. But being hard is not all that is being a man(kisungu tupu)!

Our guest navigated the heartbreak well. He even wrote a song about it. Which is akin to coming full circle for this love thing. You start by sharing music, then you end up creating music for a (the) lost cause.

Eddy will walk in late, by a whole two hours and offer us Afya Mango Juice and Tropical Heat groundnuts or bottle of Krest Soda. He doesn't care that we are two. He knows we are men and we will share the soda. Good thing I don't take Soda and I leave Brian to add more calories to his already fat stomach(too soon to throw stones when I live in a glass house?)

On this day, Brian was in Naivasha looking at Zebras and thinking they are cute. Cute? The gentrification of Luhya men has started.

Eddy was in... He was some where that is not the studio.

That leaves us with only one person, myself! Yes! Me. The podcast has to be done and I took one when the team was away(not for them, I took one for myself).

I jumbled and mumbled a lot, talking for one hour behind a mic is like preaching to people seated below the Tom Mboya statue. You keep talking there is no banter. No counter just your voice in your ears reminding you that even your friends can go to Naivasha and leave you alone.

Anyway, I am now proceeding for my annual leave, you thought podcasts don't have those? And as such I leave you in the hands of those two. See you in January, but first, I told a story about my mother's hair and many other mini stories.

Ndugu is his own brother's keeper. A pun? Enjoy!

Someone's daughter told me, "I am not even sure men like women," while we were having a discussion about gender wars and I had to get defensive, saying, surely, of course we like women.

"It doesn't show."

So I brought this issue up at the Podcast recording and because Eddy was stuck somewhere being asked,"Who is your mommy!" it was the right time to have a sensible discussion, just Ndugu and I, and we surprised ourselves with our wisdom.

It's a different kind of podcast. One with laughter, yes, but also one where we prove we can be husbands and fathers, and one that can only be possible with Eddy's absence, seeing as his three dreadlocks stand between him and wisdom.

Also, Ndugu used all the English he had on Friday. He was breathless by the time we were done.

Brian texts 37 minutes to show time to let us know he won’t make it to the studio. It is the audacity for us. It was not out of an emergency. It wasn’t an accident, far from it. The guy knew he wasn’t coming to the studio three weeks ago. He and the people he was with that day. But because the show must go on, we called in the ladies’ favorite Bennito. His real name is Benjamin but the ladies love the way Bennito rolls in their tongues.
