From making mud pies in Finchley to Wales, via The Great Pottery Throwdown motorway, Keith talks us through his love story with Pottery.
He name checks his first ceramics teacher and pinpoints why he has such an affinity for clay.
Ever wondered what Keith got up to in Lockdown? Or what’s the story with the whole Wales thing? Then this is the podcast for you 😁

In this episode we learn about Tim’s delightfully delinquent past specialising in gentlemanly breaking and entering, he never stole anything and always tidied up after himself.
Teacher Tim explains the wide variety of wood firing techniques and then disappears to be replaced by Naughty Tim who brings out Teacher Amanda. Needless to say, there’s a bit in the middle… 🤣🤣🤣
We compose ourselves and eventually delve into his approach to pottery and the different ways of throwing, including his magical April Fools day video
We also find out why Maker Tim and Seller Tim aren’t allowed to speak and why you’re very lucky if you have one of his early story cups! 😁
Oh and I drop 2 F bombs that I couldn’t edit out (Sorry Mum 😳)

In this solo episode, I reflect on all the things I’ve learned from doing this podcast.
Next week will be another The Potscast… with and it’s going to be exciting!
(I had to re-record a couple of bits because the wind got too loud, so apologies for the weird jumps in the sound 😳)

In this episode, the lovely lilting voice of Linda Capper leads us through her pottery story.
We compared our throwing preferences and how we have arranged our businesses to suit us.
We had a short detour into the merits (?) of single firing and I renewed my plea for people to start mixing their own glazes 😁
For her part, Linda introduced me to Lucy Rie and reminded me of the long history of this thing we love called pottery.
And then, most interestingly, we end up in an Antarctic expedition and learn the real truth about Penguins!

In this episode, Emily Burkhalter and I discuss how we got into the whole making your own glazes thing.
The conversation does get a bit potterynerdy, but I happily fly my potterynerd flag and say that I loved hearing why Bentonite is in so many glazes, what the heck specific gravity does and why you don’t need to stock whiting AND wollastonite 🤓😁
We both present our arguments in the ‘cones/no cones’ debate and the stains vs oxides question. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what side you fall on. 😁
Emily also gives me an explanation AND solution to the perennial potter’s problem of ‘deadpanning’
It was so great to be able to learn more about glaze making from someone much more advanced in this skill than I.

In this episode, I explain why I, as very much an intermediate Potter, and not at all fancy-schmancy, have decided to produce a ‘Spring Collection’.
Firstly, why the hell not? 😁 and secondly, I’ll let myself explain…
I also discuss my foray into bird whispering, evidence of which can be found in my previous Substack post or if you simply click here.

In this inspiring Potscast episode, we discover how Emily made her way into this life of mud. From Herbert, to throwing away all the rules of pottery.
Emily was forced to redefine her way of doing things and her story certainly convinced me that in pottery, everything is possible, and if you didn’t know the difference between English Clay and American clay, you need to hear this before you watch another YouTube video 😮
If, at the end, you’re not ready to throw away all the rules of pottery and be more confident in your own creative voice then… well, maybe listen again 😁
We had a really interesting detour into Glazes and glazemaking that I will be making into a stand alone episode, so stay tuned for that.

Juliann leads us through her pottery adventure, from a failed class, to her present day set up, via her experiences living in Japan.
What has pottery got in common with toasters?
We learn about the history of the high temperature wire to find out. 😁
Then, as we both have a business background, of course, we dwelt for a moment on the business side of pottery, each offering our business advice for potters starting out on their own.
I went into a sermon preaching the virtues of glaze making versus using commercial glazes, but luckily, we ended on our mutual love of colour and an action item for her to get on with 😁

In this episode, I thought I was going to get carried away on a rant, turned out, it was quite simple really 🤷🏽♀️😁
