Welcome to 2017! Stan Efferding returns to the show for our first episode of the new year. We talk about how your success in business is shaped by how you get started, and about how very small changes in your diet and workout plans yield the biggest results. Attention to detail is important, but how do you decide which details to focus on? Stan shares his well-reasoned point of view.
Find Stan at thekooler.com and everywhere at @stanefferding.

Brooke Erickson and Leanna Carr joined us for episode 179 back in October as part of the “Ladies of Bodybuilding.com” tour. Brooke is an IFBB Pro Figure competitor, and Leanna is a figure competitor and a competitive powerlifter. Brooke gave us a look at what it took to get her pro card and how she had to balance family demands and training requirements to make it happen. She also offered insight on how recovering from an eating disorder has shaped her approach to her family’s nutrition. Leanna described how she’s pursing both aesthetic and strength goals.
We also touch on the role of social media in fitness, and the extent to which kids should be exposed to it.

The title of this episode is inspired by something Mike said while we were recording…but sometimes that sums up the show pretty well. We talk about an often-quoted study on the effectiveness of steroids on the untrained, and whether or not we told a bunch of inappropriate ethnic jokes at Bart Kwan’s expense when he was on the show last year.
We watch and comment on the live stream of USAPL Raw Nationals, and Mark rips into politics within the IPF and USAPL. And we finish up with some NFL talk and a robot that does pushups and sweats.
Mark Bell hosts with Michael Farr and Jim McDonald.
Former pro strongman and pro wrestler, and current IFBB pro bodybuilder, Jon Andersen joins us again...this time in studio. We talk about his approaches to training for three very different strength related sports, dealing with injuries and a reliance on painkillers while wrestling in Japan, and how one door closing led to another swinging wide open into the world of pro bodybuilding. He also gives us insights on changes he's made in his diet and training to reach his bodybuilding goals. (And, of course, since Jon told us one of the most popular poop stories in the history of the show, we talk about that some, too.)
You can find Jon at DeepWaterMethod.com.

Silent Mike bravely tries to keep us on the topic of lifting as we veer into discussions of the guy on Reddit who has two dicks, cheese made from someone's belly button fuzz, and the Blade Runner, Oscar Pistorious. On-topic subjects include a couple new sponsors for the podcast (Bodybuilding.com and the lifestyle brand Caffeine and Kilos), transitioning from geared to raw lifting, the upcoming Raw Unity meet, what Mark Bell's fantasy powerlifting meet would look like, common misconceptions about well-known lifters, general physical preparedness (GPP), and guidelines for gaining weight sensibly. Mark Bell hosts with Mike Farr and Jim McDonald.
