An analogy related to bhakti being the microscope through which we can look into the topic of God that has struck me in the past is on a personal level. If you meet somebody that you don't know and they try to observe who you are from the outside, for instance, they might drive around your house and maybe use a telescope to try to look in the window. But how much can they find out? They might even approach you in a very logical way and interview you and ask you questions, and you may give reserved answers because you're not really sure who that person is, if they care about you.

But if a person came to your birthday party or remembered something about you through a friend, a friend of a friend of a friend, and then they expressed appreciation for you and showed some goodwill, they did some service. Then you might start opening your mind, your heart, and thinking, well, maybe this person is a well-wisher, and after some time, other people recommend the person and say, no, they're a really good person. You should get to know him. And then once there's a friendship, you might just tell him, yeah, well, you know, I was born in Louisiana, nobody knows that, and I was estranged from my parents at birth, and then I moved to another little village somewhere, and I have all these friends there that not many people know about. And my life is, you know, I play a flute, and I like butter, you know, you might tell details, but you wouldn't tell it to somebody who just walks up to your door and says, 'Who are you?' Anyway, we're doing an interview.
