"When our middle daughter, Shiloh, was 3 months old, she got very sick. She spent 96 days in the hospital, most of which she was intubated. As a result, she lost the ability to eat by mouth and ended up with a G-Tube. "
In episode 10, Lori sits down with a real life Produce Mom. Like we mentioned in the very first episode, many of our topics on the show are inspired by our community of Produce Moms. We want to inspire and encourage Moms all across the globe by showing them that it is possible to incorporate more fresh produce into their diets and that the long term effects for them and their families are truly life-changing.
"She's just a one-year-old who needed healthy food grow, be strong, and feel good. Once we switched to that, that's exactly what happened"
Andrea is a mother of 3 children. Her second daughter, Shiloh, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, struggled with tube feedings, and was not responding well to the formulas that the doctors were prescribing. Andrea decided to take matters into her own hands, followed her "mom" instinct, and started feeding her daughter fresh produce and other balanced whole foods through her feeding tube and she saw a complete reversal of some of the problems her daughter was having.
"Our goal for every meal is a grain, a protein, dairy a few times per day, a fruit, and a vegetable"
There's a Produce Mom in all of us, and Andrea's story is just one of the many that we hear about every day. Fresh produce is more than just something that's on the food pyramid. It is changing lives, healing bodies, and helping our families become stronger and live happier, healthier lives.

"Traditional Plant Breeding is simply a selection process"
In episode 9, Lori sits down with Plant Breeding Specialist, Ellen Thompson. Ellen is the Plant Breeding and Research Director at Pacific Berry Farms, a berry grower that is in partnership with Naturipe Farms.
Unique to the produce industry, Naturipe Farms is a partnership between four highly-esteemed fresh berry growers, whose fields are spread across the globe. As a group, our growers are able to provide consistent and diverse seasonal crops.
By sharing resources, skills, labor and knowledge, we are better farmers and in turn strengthen the farm community. To ensure year-round availability with a commitment to seasonal produce, our fresh berries are farmed in the most optimal growing regions throughout North and South America.
"Classic Plant Breeding has been around for thousands of years"
In this episode, Ellen answers some common questions about how your food is grown, the process of plant breeding, and the difference between classic plant breeding and GMO. It's important to know where our food comes from and hearing the heart and passion behind what Ellen and her team does is extremely insightful as to how the farming process works.
"We're always trying to overcome any challenges that may be in front of us, and through plant breeding, we can, very slowly and meticulously, overcome through that recurrent selection process year after year"
At TPM, we're always trying to find innovative ways to share the importance of fresh produce in today's food culture. By understanding where it comes from, how it's grown, and some of the specifics when it comes to farming, we can help you find ways to eat more fresh produce and promote health in your families and communities.

"More vegetable and more fruit - that's easily the most important thing that is involved in good nutrition and what nutrition really means"
In episode 8, Lori sits down with Jackie London from Good Housekeeping. Jackie writes and reports on nutrition news and trends, noteworthy products, "myth-busting" diet fads, weight-loss tips, eating advice, and diet stories for the magazine. She also conducts GH's taste-tests, in which she'll establish nutritional criteria for products in a food category and then conduct large-scale taste-tests to report in the magazine.
"It's not nutrition until it's eaten"
Jackie also reviews all of the food products that want to use the Good Housekeeping Seal, and evaluates packaged food claims ("low-sodium," "high-fiber") to make sure they're legit. Jackie is one of the visionaries behind the Good Housekeeping Nutritionist Approved Emblem, which launched in 2016 and serves as a new Good Housekeeping Seal for food products.
"It's only one day at a time and one meal at a time"

"There's a Produce Mom in all of us"
In episode 7, Lori sits down with someone that has been in the Produce industry as long as she has. Pamela Riemenschneider is the Editor of Produce Retailer and serves many roles at 2 of the Produce Industry's leading trade journals. She is at the helm of what kind of stories are being published and how we are educating retailers on fresh produce.
Pamela is also the host of Pamela's Kitchen where she puts fresh produce to the test on youtube and instagram as well as other innovative marketing techniques.
"I want consumers to believe that their retailer buyers get around the table and decide, 'this is the produce that we're going to buy and offer to our consumers'"
As a Produce Mom, you want to feel like your retailers are working for you, right? We believe there's a day coming where retailers will be so educated that even the clerk at your favorite supermarket will be educated on fresh produce to be able to advise and recommend what's best for you and your family.
The internet has changed the way we eat and also the way we get our groceries. With Amazon's recent acquisition of Whole Foods, we're going to see a massive shift in the future in how we shop and get our fresh produce into our homes.
"I need to get serious with digital... yesterday"
In this episode, Pamela and Lori talk about everything from oranges to boxed meal subscriptions and everything in between. The future of buying groceries and fresh produce is here. Are you ready?
"I predict that were going to see a definite shift in what's going on in store versus what's available online"
