As we enter an uncharted era of artificial intelligence, Christiane takes a look at the risk of a creation turning on its creator. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is calling for an international regulator, much like the nuclear watchdog, to prevent a catastrophe endangering our existence. The real-world impact of this technology, which is still in its infancy, is already being felt. Like the fake AI image of an explosion at the Pentagon, which caused a selloff on the stock market this week. But it’s also driving scientific breakthroughs, like the paralyzed man who just took his first steps in a decade, thanks in part to AI technology. Alondra Nelson was acting director in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the architect of the Biden administration’s Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights. Christiane asked her about the threats, opportunities, and the global moves to regulate AI.
Also on today's show: Actor Oscar Isaac and Prodcuer Jeremy O. Harris; Dr. Daniel Grossman, Director, Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health, UCSF & Medical Sociologist Katrina Kimport
