The Prospector Podcast

After delaying the inevitable with a Spin-Off series, The Prospector Podcast makes its way back into UTEP Student Media and Publications with its 13th season!

Since we’ve reached lucky number 13, our staff made sure to make this season premiere, the most special in all of Texas. We start by first, talking about the Miners’ Football, Volleyball, and Soccer season. To add a cherry on top, a new staff reporter and layout editor offer tips for those nervous about the new school year.

Finally, sports editor Kristian Hernandez, multimedia editor Sebastian Perez-Navarro, and EIC Evelyn Palma, sit down to host UTEP President Heather Wilson. She discusses the possibility of a law school at UTEP, the return of a Mining Program, and the university’s AI curriculum, which even includes a tease about possible changes for campus parking coming next Fall.

Welcome to The 13th season of The Prospector Podcast!

To conclude The Prospector’s venture into summer podcasting, the whole staff really had to use their “imagination,” to create what is possibly one of the most creative, and funniest podcast episodes made by UTEP Student Media and Publications.

We learn about coffee passports with our Audience and Engagement editor and run down summer blockbuster season by learning what movies are worth the watch! Finally, we talk to a true star, Patrick Star, over how Spongebob The Musical is bringing its underwater magic to UTEP!

Host: Sebastian Perez-Navarro
Co-host: Kristian Hernandez
Guests: Kahri Reyes, Evelyn Palma, Ximena Cordero, Erik Orozco

The Prospector Podcast continues spinning into summer by hosting radio personalities Steve Kaplowitz and Adrian Broaddus from 600 ESPN El Paso! They join Sebastian Perez-Navarro and Kristian Hernandez talking about everything UTEP and El Paso sports!

Adrian Broaddus is a Prospector alumnus, working with UTEP Student Media and Publications for four years, serving in positions such as Sports Editor, Web and Copy Editor, and even Editor-In-Chief!

We would like to send a special congratulations to radio legend Steve Kaplowitz who is celebrating his 30 year anniversary on the radio! And thank you to 600 ESPN El Paso for supporting student media!

It wouldn’t be The Prospector without a podcast, and we’re kicking off the summer season by catching up with our new editors!

The summer breeze has also given our podcast a breath of fresh air, as we’re moving into the Education Building to hold our conversations that are meant to inform, tell stories and tease the staff just a little.

We'll talk to all of our staff, editors, and even some former faces and discuss their thoughts before they walk the stage at Don Haskins!

After becoming a video game that defined a generation, the Minecraft Movie has comeback into the limelight through the big screen. Since Minecraft has been a pivotal piece of the lives that work at The Prospector, we had to dedicate TWO segments to the movie!

Yet, we can't ignore how hard lucha libre has been hitting El Paso. As to start this episode, we talk about how Cinta De Oro, formerly known as Sin Cara in the WWE, has been combining different wrestling styles from the whole globe!

In 2015 a group of UTEP students launched the first episode of The Prospector Podcast, revolutionizing the way student opinions can be communicated, and shared throughout the Miner Community.

This month, episode six was dedicated to celebrating all individuals who have pioneered podcasting at UTEP. We hear from former hosts who have carried this show for over a decade, share the staff’s first impressions of each other, and catch up on co-host Cam Mason!

It's evident that the music industry has changed drastically over the 2000s, but in that time span, has pop music been left behind?

Or better yet, what even constitutes pop music? Well, thanks to those in The Prospector who truly know about contemporary tunes, we answer those questions!

Plus! The hero of Wrestling is a hero no more. We break down John Cena's turn to the dark side, aka a "heel" turn, and discuss what it means for the future of the WWE.

And we can't ignore spring break! As during that week, those in the office decided to take a group hike.

The 915 just saw the edition of a new attraction, Cinemark's Gamescape! Maybe it's recency bias, but the belief over whether Gamescape can take over El Paso as it's premier entertainment destination is what we discuss in today's episode!

Since we need to get all aspects, today's discussion it topped off with some slap sauce!

We also, talk about Cafe Piro, one of the most unique coffee shops in Texas, and highlight teams who we think can be bracket busters in March Madness!

It'd be a crime to ignore the end of a franchise 40 years in the making! At least, the end of a story for all the characters in Cobra Kai.

Plus, our boss / EIC Avery Escamilla-Wendell joins us to speak about puppies, and life updates! Sorry Cam

On the topic of movies, we put a spotlight on UTEP's own movie club as they spread films that students may not know a-lot about!
